No Shortcuts Reading Group #2

We're going to be discussing Jane McAlevey's book "No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Gilded Age". Jane is a rank-and-file organizer, and has a lot to teach tech workers from her intelligent union work. In this second session, we'll be reading the second half of the book (Chapters 4 - 7).

We've reserved room #7 at the Brooklyn Public Library, Grand Army infocommons.

March To "Break Up" Amazon
This Valentine's Day, we encourage Tech Worker's Coalition members to stand in solidarity with organizations across the city to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Amazon HQ2 "breakup.".
  • Amazon provides services to DHS and ICE contractors that enable ICE to more quickly track and build cases against immigrant families. #NoTechForICE
  • Amazon is collecting massive amounts of data that can be shared with ICE, completely undermining NYC’s status as a sanctuary city.
  • Through Ring, Amazon is building a private surveillance network and giving police departments access to footage that enables them to target people in black and brown communities.
When: Friday, 2/14 @ 9:00 AM
Where: In front of the Vessel at Hudson Yards

There will also be an arts build tonight, 2/12 starting @6PM at 50 Broadway, 29th Floor.

#NoBusinessWithICE
(this is a CloseTheCampsNYC action)
On February 16, we encourage TWC members to attend an all out march and direct action targeting a company that profits at the expense of immigrant lives.

Entering into a whole new decade...children are still caged in concentration camps and ICE is still terrorizing our communities, all while private corporations continue to provide the support ICE needs to rip families apart. At the end of the day, private companies provide facilities, transportation, tech, research, and myriad other forms of support to this violent institution almost completely under the radar.

When: Sunday, 2/16 @ 3:00 PM
Where: In front of the NYPL
