Update from our CEO

Welcome, all!

Hoping everyone has had a chance to smell some petrichor – the smell of the land after rain.

There has been movement at this station over the last quarter, with the launch of our new Strategic Plan 2020-25.  A plan which hopefully delivers on our bold new brand.

The brand, whilst we love it, is more than just a logo.  It is the embodiment of the character, commitment, expertise and effort of all our staff and our stakeholders.  That brand we hope is conveyed in the following pages of this Boab Banter newsletter.

Please read the stories and reflect on that old Paul Kelly song – “From little things, big things grow”.  Seems fitting for us and for this time of year.

Matt Burrows | CEO

Mental Health support for Fitzroy Valley

Nicola Woodin is back with Boab Health Services as our Mental Health Professional providing a fort-nightly service to Fitzroy Crossing and communities in the valley.

Nicola is available to see adults who would like to engage in therapy / counselling. Nicola sees people with depression, anxiety, or those who are feeling low in mood, confused, upset or distressed. Many people she works with have experienced trauma or grief and loss. Both women and men can access this service to talk about problems at home or in their family relationships.

Sometimes Nicola uses art or other creative ways of helping people feel comfortable and free to start telling their stories. She is interested in family and what keeps people strong, as well as their problems and concerns.  Nicola is available to see clients in her office, and can also offer home visits or at other locations where the client feels safe and comfortable.

Nicola has worked as a clinical psychologist for around 20 years and has a passion for trauma work and community psychology. She has worked in remote and rural areas of South Africa, and in the Kimberley for the past seven years. Nicola has loved learning and working in communities such as Halls Creek and Fitzroy Valley.

To refer a client to this service please complete our Mental Health Referral Form.

If you would like to know more about this service, please contact Nicola Woodin on 0438 529 072 or email  mhfx1@boabhealth.com.au.

10 tips to improve your gut health

Our dietitian Trinda recently shared this article with our staff at Boab Health Services as a part of our commitment to promote healthy eating within our workplace.

Our staff loved this article so we thought we'd share it with you.

 First off, some quick definitions:

Microbiota – the name for the mixture of bacteria, fungi and yeast in your digestive tract! ‘Your collection’, if you will 😊

Probiotics – live microorganisms such as bacteria, we all have some in our guts already and this is the product you are looking at when you see probiotic supplements at the store but they’re also found in food such as yoghurt and fermented milk (Yakult/Kefir)

Prebiotics – food for your healthy gut bacteria. Prebiotics get fermented by gut bacteria and helps maintain gut health. These are often found in high fibre foods (whole grains, fruits, veg and more)
