Weekly News

Dear friends,
This Sunday is the 6th in Ordinary Time.
In the Gospel reading, We hear Jesus' teaching on the Jewish Law. The words that Jesus uses can seem very harsh to our ears. But to his first hearers it would have been outrageous. The Law given by God to Moses was sacred and gave the Jews their identity and social cohesion. And yet here is this new prophet daring to qualify the law and give it a new interpretation.

At the heart of this teaching Jesus is saying it is not just our actions that matter but what is in our hearts. if we are in a right relationship with God and one another and we try our best to pursue a life of love and giving then our actions will flow from that in a positive way. Of course, from time to time we all fail, which is why it is so important to be in church every Sunday to be renewed by Jesus himself in the mass.

Today we begin a series of 8 lunchtime concerts in partnership with the charity AgeUK. I am looking for volunteers to help welcome and serve tea and coffee and also to bake cakes. If you can help at any of these Thursday events then speak to me or sign the sheet at the back of church. Please invite others to come. Click here for more details.

On Saturday 22nd at 3pm there will be special service at St Mary's to dedicate their new Calvary Chapel. Please come and support our sister church on this important day. Click here for more details.

See you on Sunday
Fr James
