Dear Accounting Society Members, 

       Hello everyone! Thank you to everyone who attended our BDO event on Tuesday and our first office visit with Baker Tilly on Wednesday. We look forward to seeing you all again at future events!
     This week we will have our "Future Trends in the Industry" event with Deloitte on Tuesday, February 18th and "Networking Like A Pro" event with EY on Thursday, February 20th. This month we will also have one of our biggest events of the semester- the Mentorship Event (February 25th), our first personal development event- the Interview Event (February 27th), and our first volunteer event at Coney Island's New York Aquarium (February 29th).
       We are accepting applications for various assistant and committee positions. See below for more information. The application deadline is Thursday, February 20th at 11:59 PM.

To become an inducted member, you have to satisfy the following requirements (You have two consecutive semesters to fulfill these requirements):
  • 5 Corporate Events
  • 2 General Interest Meetings
  • 2 Volunteer Events
Upcoming Events
1) "Future Trends in the Industry with Deloitte" with BAP and ZGAS - 2/18
Tuesday, February 18th, 12:40pm - 2:20pm 
Location: NVC 14-250
(This event will count towards Corporate Event Credit)
Learn about the changing landscape of accounting and the evolutionary role of technology in accounting services with Deloitte! The deadline to RSVP has passed.

2) "Networking Like A Pro with EY" with Ascend - 2/20
Thursday, February 20th, 12:40pm - 2:20pm 
Location: NVC 9-150
(This event will count towards Corporate Event Credit)
Let EY demonstrate the do's and dont's of networking! Learn to make yourself stand out to professionals among other applicants. The deadline to RSVP is February 18th at 11:59 pm. RSVP here

3) Mentorship Event - 2/25
Tuesday, February 25th, 12:40pm - 2:20pm 
Location: TBA
(This event will count towards Corporate Event Credit)
Join us for one of our biggest events of the semester! Students will be paired with a professional to learn more about the accounting industry, the professional's job, and the firm they work at. Take this opportunity to gain valuable career advice and form a mentor-mentee relationship to guide you on your career path. Please note: Business professional attire is required to attend. This is a NO RESUME event. The deadline to RSVP is February 18th at 11:59 pm. RSVP here
4)  Interview Workshop - 2/27

(This event will count towards Corporate Event Credit)
Join us for our first event in the Personal Development Series, the Interview Workshop! Learn how to ace an interview and put your skills to practice by participating in mock interviews with our board members! No RSVP required.

Coney Island Indoor Beach Planting Prep - 2/29
Saturday February 29th, 10:00am - 1:00pm 
Location: New York Aquarium Education Hall-Boardwalk Entrance
(This event will count towards Volunteer Credit)
Volunteer with NYC Parks Stewardship and the Wildlife Conservation Society-New York Aquarium! Volunteers will help prepare beach grass culms (stems) for planting. Please note: Supplies are provided but volunteers should dress in clothes that can get dirty, close-toed shoes, and warm layers. Space is limited. Register here

Committee and Assistant Positions

Please note: You do not have to be an inducted member to apply and you're welcome to apply to multiple positions!

Below is the list of our current open committee and assistant positions:  
 
Assistant to VP of Internal Affairs:
(This assistant is assigned to the Vice President of Internal Affairs)
• Contribute to assembling the weekly newsletter with the help of the Vice President of Internal Affairs and the Secretary
• Document complete attendance with the Secretary at events
• Organize past attendance records to ensure it is properly archived into the database
• Assist in updating the website with upcoming events, photos, videos, newsletters, and other relevant materials
• Assist the VP of Internal Affairs in the semester end Induction Ceremony by printing member certificates

Assistant(s) to VP of External Affairs:
(This assistant(s) is assigned to the Vice President of External Affairs)
• Assist the Vice President of External Affairs on the day of the event with setting up for the event and cleaning up after the event. This may include tasks such as decorating the event room, greeting professionals at the entrance, guiding professionals to their seats, cleaning up after the end of the event, and other necessary tasks.
• Help prepare for the event by contributing in tasks including, but not limited to, helping purchase items, setting up name tags, printing flyers, and other necessary tasks in the weeks leading up to the event.

Assistant(s) to the VP of Volunteers:
(This assistant(s) is assigned to the VP of Volunteers)
• Assist the Vice President of Volunteers during the volunteer events by taking attendance and other responsibilities as needed.
• Coordinate one volunteer event for the semester with the guidance of the Vice President of Volunteers.
• Strong preference for candidates who are available to assist at volunteer events on weekends.

Assistant to the Events Coordinator:
(This assistant is assigned to the Events Coordinator)
• Assist the Events Coordinator in preparation for each event (food pickup, greeting, room cleanup).
• Aid the Events Coordinator in overseeing the Planning Committee.
• Strong preference for candidates who are able to be present for every event during club hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Planning Committee:
(This committee is assigned to the Events Coordinator)
• Aid with preparation before each event (Note: These preparations include—but are not limited to—setting up tables, and carrying utensils, refreshments, and food prior to the beginning of the event.)
• Assist the Events Coordinator in closing and packing at each event
• Selected individuals within the committee will also become a greeter at each event.

Marketing Committee:
(This committee is assigned to the Vice President of Marketing and the Marketing Coordinator)
• Help market the Accounting Society by posting flyers around the school, participating in tabling events and club fairs, and spreading the word about our events to friends and classmates
• Print flyers (Note: This requires the committee member to dedicate some monetary
amount of their Baruch College library printing money. The exact amount required will be specified at the discretion of the Vice President of Marketing and the Marketing Coordinator.)
• Assist in the creation of event flyers
• Take photos at Baruch Accounting Society events and co-sponsorship events
• Mandatory projects: creations of posters, videos for Accounting Society events
