What's happening, Charlotte?

Kallan has the week off, so Katrina was kind enough to let me (Glenn) fill in.

Two things on my mind today:

1. The Arts & Science Council is conducting a survey to learn more about Mecklenburg County residents’ priorities for arts and cultural investments.

If you read this newsletter, you probably care deeply about this issue, so I'm making a personal appeal for you to make your opinions known.

Yes, ASC is a longtime advertiser on QCity Metro. But equally important, I know that ASC leaders want to hear from all segments of Mecklenburg County -- including the African-American community.

The anonymous survey takes about three minutes.

2. Wilmington's LIE: QCity Metro is hosting a killer event next week (Feb. 20) with author David Zucchino, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who wrote the book "Wilmington's Lie: The Murderous coup of 1898 and the Rise of White Supremacy."

In addition to that community conversation, moderated by WFAE's Gwendolyn Glenn, we also will have a panel of journalists to talk about "Media Literacy in the Age of the Internet." The League of Women Voters will be there with a voter-registration table. Plus some special musical guests.

The event is free, but we ask that you register here.

With help from Foundation For The Carolinas, we purchased 500 copies of "Wilmington's LIE" and distributed them for free, mainly through the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library.

When you register for free, you'll see a donate button. Any amount you give will help us cover the costs of this important event.

Have a great weekend, QCity. With luck, Kallan returns next week.
