Reason's to Celebrate Valentine's Day:

Do you know the real reason we celebrate Valentines Day?  Valentine's Day is named after Valentinus or Saint Valentine lived in mid 200 AD.  Some of what he did is lost to history, but some survives in tradition and legend.  However, even if Valentinus himself did not do the following amazing things other Christians definitely did:

Two reasons to Celebrate Valentine’s Day:
#1 – Valentinus stood up for God’s Love!  Jesus loved us so much he died to save us from our sins!  Are you willing to stand up for Jesus? St. Valentine was told not to speak about Jesus, but he did so anyway, “While under house arrest of Judge Asterius, and discussing his faith with him, Valentinus was discussing the validity of Jesus. The judge put Valentinus to the test and brought to him the judge's adopted blind daughter. If Valentinus succeeded in restoring the girl's sight, Asterius would do whatever he asked. Valentinus, praying to God, laid his hands on her eyes and the child's vision was restored. Immediately humbled, the judge asked Valentinus what he should do. Valentinus replied that all of the idols around the judge's house should be broken, and that the judge should fast for three days and then undergo the Christian sacrament of baptism.”  Later Valentinus was put to death after being rearrested on February 14, 269 AD. Are you willing to share God’s love even if it means prison or death.  Closer to today it might mean missing a ball game, or being the sport of people’s conversation.  That is love!  Legend has it, “Saint Valentine wrote a note to Asterius's daughter signed "from your Valentine", which is said to have "inspired today's romantic missives."  Valentinus cared enough about Asterius family to pray for them and even ask God for a miracle so they might believe.  1 Peter 3:15 “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect.”  See

#2  Valentinus stood up for marriage!  In Valentinus’s day the government was preventing Christian soldiers from getting married.  Valentinus defied the orders and married them anyway. Today our Government does not prevent marriage, but instead our society downplays marriage for the so called safety of living together.  Sure, no one wants divorce, but God has given abundant tools to the church to help prevent divorce.  Come talk to Pastor Travis or Pastor Freudenburg if you are even considering marriage!  Valentines day is about celebrating marriage!  Speak well of your marriage and other people’s marriages.  Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.  God out for dinner, have dinner at home with your spouse, contemplate and discuss with your girl friend or boy friend if your relationship is leading towards marriage.  If so, get married, if not date someone else!  Commend people around you by congratulating them for marriage.  If you are single thank God for your own relationship with God!

Come prepare anew by turning to God and repenting of your sin and receiving forgiveness from Jesus.  This is a daily event in the Christian life, but Ash Wednesday brings deep meaning to our daily contrition and absolution.

The 7th and 8th Grade will be serving a Pulled Pork with Baked Beans, Coleslaw, Role, and Dessert.  All the proceeds will go to the Warming Shelter.
The whole congregation, friends and neighbors are invited to come out and have a family night out at the park.  You do not have to have kids to be part of the family of God!  If money is an issue we have scholarships.  Talk to Pastor Freudenburg or just meet at the park on Tuesday February 25!
