Courtesy of VHS Coaches – Valdez played host to a number of teams from around the state over Valentine’s weekend for the 43rd installment of the Valdez Elks Tournament. This year’s field included the Lathrop Malemutes, Mt. Edgecumbe Braves, Cordova Wolverines, Seward Seahawks, Eielson Ravens, Kotzebue Huskies, and the Varsity and Junior Varsity squads from the hometown Buccaneers.

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – This past weekend was a fun opportunity to play in front of large, rowdy, home crowds at the yearly Elks Tournament.

To start off the tournament, the Buccaneers played Kotzebue. The Huskies were red-hot all night, shooting 62% from the field, and making 12 of 23 three pointers.

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – The Junior Varsity Buccaneers filled in for Unalaska this weekend during the 43’d annual Elks Tournament. Starting the tournament with an honorable sacrifice into the consolation bracket, Valdez JV played their best game of the season against the Kotzebue Varsity team.

Courtesy of VHS Coaches – The Valdez JV girls had a great opportunity to play in the Valdez Elks Tournament. We faced Cordova first, we came out strong and took the lead and lost it by 3 points in last few minutes of the fourth quarter.

ANC REPORTS RECORD PASSENGER NUMBERS IN 2019

The results are in! A record number of more than 5.7 million passengers traveled through Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) in 2019.
The number of passengers passing through ANC increased by 122,000 travelers over 2018. ANC attributes this growth to Alaska’s bullish tourism sector – specifically, increases in cruise passengers flying to or from ANC in conjunction with their one-way, cross-gulf itineraries.

HALIBUT COMMISSION SETS HARVEST LEVELS
AK Journal of Commerce - Amid ongoing stock declines and concerns about commercial bycatch, the International Pacific Halibut Commission opted to cut allocations in Southcentral and Southeast Alaska for 2020.

CELLO BOP AT THE CIVIC CENTER TUESDAY NIGHT
Using the electric cello for improvisational classical, blues, jazz, electronic, fun and folk music, Gideon Freudmann of Cell Bop is sure to entertain at the Civic Center Tuesday night. IN VALDEZ WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4TH
The Valdez Civic Center Cinema is pleased to announce the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in Valdez Wednesday, March 4th.
Not only will the World’s Best Mountain Films be shown on the big screen, the Civic Center is hosting a reception starting at 5pm with a no-host bar, vendors and prize giveaways. Come early and sign up to win prizes from national and local vendors. The films will begin at 7pm and the Grand Prize Giveaways of One Adult Fat Bike and One Youth Fat Bike will be announced at the end.
