Over the next 10 days, around 250 oyster farmers across Australia will be working together to combat the scourge of marine debris. This seafood industry initiative, dubbed Tide to Tip, is being launched on Monday 17th February with 22 growing regions participating across NSW, QLD & NT.
While most clean-ups are been undertaken by oyster farmers exclusively, some estuaries have taken the opportunity to partner with other groups, including professional fishers, recreational anglers, Indigenous organisations, local schools and other coastal community stakeholders.
Given recent extreme weather events, oyster farmers are encouraged to check with their local clean-up coordinators to check if existing plans need to be modified. Safety is paramount, so please adjust your plans as needed and let OceanWatch know of any changes (contact details below).
When participating in clean-ups, please remeber to read through the on site safety briefing beforehand, sign-on as a OceanWatch volunteer (for insurance purposes), and follow the instructions of your local clean-up coordinator.
