The Monthly for January 2020

A new year sees the Monthly heading towards Community Arts Partnership's 20 anniversary celebrations in late March. The Monthly will be running special issues in February and March to celebrate CAP's work.

For our January Monthly though, we start the new decade by interviewing local writer and playwright, Joe Nawaz, about his work with Shot Glass Theatre and his very successful solo work, Fake ID, which looks at racism, identity and family relationships.

CAP workshop facilitator and local poet Moyra Donaldson talks about being awarded a Major Artist Award by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, what this will mean for her career and the project she is about to undertake.

The following articles were published on The Monthly website in December 2019.

Maria Doyle spoke to The Monthly about Stormy Mondays, where people come together to listen to albums and discuss their thoughts. She discussed her love of music, but more importantly the use of music to encourage connections between people.

Stephen McNally is the new Northern Ireland Manager for Making Music. He discusses his thoughts on support for leisure-time musicians and the upcoming activities around Make Music Day.

We are building up our team of reviewers and anyone interested in writing reviews for The Monthly should contact gordon@capartscentre.com.

The Monthly's new reviewer, Maria Doyle's first review sees her write about The Darkling Air's performance at the Out to Lunch Festival and her understanding of what the duo is trying to achieve through their live shows.
