President's Report
- TRAINING AND EDUCATION: I noticed last weekend some more training groups busy starting their new courses. Sunday morning bright and early our IRB team were busy training the next group of crew and drivers. Frank gave a text book display of " if you can't go over then you should go through" the shore dump in the basin. He kept it upright somehow. Later in the morning I spotted Andrew with his newest Bronze group. Plenty of young faces I recognised as former nippers, having a good time. Thanks again to all our trainers.
- LIFESAVING: I'm often at the beach and endeavour to say g'day to as many of our patrol volunteers as possible. we have great patrols that do a great job and again I want to thank all our patrol members for their efforts.
- OUR SPECIAL CARNIVAL: Thank you to our Nipper Committee and all the families for their hard work in preparing for another special day at our annual Special Needs Branch Championships. Most importantly congratulations to all the kids on displaying such resilience, sportsmanship, and reminding us how important it is to "have a go".Thank you also to the parents of all the competitors for bringing the kids along and making the event such a success.
- GOOD LUCK: to all our nipper competitors heading north to Swansea Friday week to compete at the State titles. Compete well and enjoy yourselves.

Calling All Local Sporting Champions Aged 12 - 18
Did you know if you are between the ages of 12 - 18 and competing at the State or National surf titles over March and April, then you are eligble to apply for a grant from the Sports Commission to cover some of the costs of attending.
There is further eligibility criteria but if you meet all of that it will be worth the 20 – 30 minutes to complete the application. If successful you could get $500 for attending the State Titles at Blacksmiths in March or $600 if attending the National Titles at Kurrawa in April. Unfortunately you can only apply for 1 grant per year and there is no guarantee you will be successful in the receiving the grant.
Click on the attached link https://www.sportaus.gov.au/lsc to take you to the website and off you go. You must apply for the grant prior to the event happening and this round of grants closes on 31st March 2020
More detailed information is available through the Surf Club Facebook site.

STOP PRESS
Mona Vale under 19 girls also known as the Assisted Drifters win the coveted ASRL Australian Open title.
In a display not witnessed by this observer since Bryce Munro and his open men knocked off Currumbin in the National Titles Final, Nathan Wilson steered the ship through the line and was given the nod by officials in a photo finish. After having been cruelly beaten in the National Final last year by South Curl Curl who came from behind on a wave, the girls got one back overtaking the South Curl Curl Girls who were leading by a narrow margin to take the title. Reliable sources tell me Nathan was heard to say “Sucked in Gus” as he crossed the line but this is yet to be confirmed.
The girls celebrated into the night doing CPR and other patrol drills organized by Zali (has anyone ever been on patrol with her as captain?). No one parties like our under 19’s.
We are all very proud of the ladies and hope that they repeat the process at the upcoming state and national titles.
Nathan’s junior boys were not so lucky. Drawing the alley of death in a quarter final where they took only two crews through from five, they came third and had to be content carrying the boat for the girls for the remainder of the day.
Kai was there with his steadily improving under 23 boys. After making enough points to qualify for the finals they learned that some clubs and some crews get more assistance than others, and a crew they beat were given an extra two points on a protest against another crew, knocking Kai and his lads out. If only they had a famous female sweep.
Kai also had his under 23 ladies who I think may challenge at Nationals, at the ASRL Open. Small surf can often be more flukey than large surf and they did not qualify for finals even though their boat speed would have suggested they would.
Does anyone know why Mitch went down when his crew were not rowing?
Luke was also there to lend support and to assist with celebrations and carrying boats. Any excuse to get those newly fashioned guns out and flex up with a boat carry hey Luke?

Nipper Branch Championships
It was a great day at the Branch Championships on Sunday 2 February. We were blessed with the weather not as hot as anticipated and the surf not as big. The whole team from our littlest under 9 competitors through to our under 14 competitors did us proud across the beach and water, with multiple green and white caps consistently lining up in final after final. Many personal bests were achieved with so many kids making it into finals for the very first time, plus a number of podiums in both beach and water. All your hard work is really paying off.
A huge THANKYOU to all our parents. With 57 kids competing and 60 rostered jobs across the beach we simply cannot do it without you. Many taking on multiple roles to get what needed done, THANKYOU!! Again, huge shout out to our IRB Drivers Nathan Wilson and David Livermore along with crew Bea and Bec.
