In order to address vital community needs, BAPS Canada (BAPS) has commenced the construction of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Calgary. This facility is located at 292200 Wagon Wheel Blvd., Rocky View No. 44, AB T4A 0E2. The creation of this Mandir is the inspiration of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj.
The maturity and growth of the South Asian community in Calgary and surrounding areas have resulted in the need to construct a Mandir (place of worship) and community centre symbolizing the tenets of Hinduism. With this growth, the needs and challenges facing the community have also increased. The creation of the Mandir by BAPS Canada will play an important role in the growth and progress of the South Asian community.
Many of us are first-generation Canadians who have made tremendous sacrifices for our children and families. And through those tremendous sacrifices, as our community grows and matures financially, we are looking towards the future. One of the most important future aspirations of the Indo-Canadian community is ensuring that our children preserve our Indian heritage and imbibe our cultural values. For that, there is a need to have a spiritual and cultural symbol to instil pride in our community and our future generations.
BAPS Canada is happy to inform you that the Shilanyas (Foundation Stone Laying) Ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 10, 2020 (April 26, 2020) in the presence of Senior Swamis of BAPS, devotees, community leaders and well-wishers. The traditional ritual will involve blessing the land with Vedic rituals and prayers for peace and well-being throughout the community.
