Howdy,

The Super Bowl entertained us. We got to see a great game and interesting ads. It seems to me that the tail of this year's Super Bowl seems longer than any other. Is it that Patrick Mahomes is such a gracious champion? Is that Tom Brady was in an add? Was it the kids int he nest 100 to try and play and not be susceptible to CTE?

My attention this week centered around the Iowa Caucus mobile app. Nothing culminated until Motherboard posted the link on Wednesday afternoon. I scanned the app at work and also watched it reversed. It is really bad. And, you would be surprised to know some of the apps on your phone are just as bad or worse.

--  Ask -->>  Do you or someone you know code d3.js? I am looking for someone to build some data visualizations.

As always, let me know how to help.

Cheers,

Scott

Iowa Caucus app - The Iowa Caucus was tallied using an insecure app side loaded outside of the app stores on volunteers' personal phones built by a team that had never built a mobile app before. High school kids could have done a better job. I watched the app reversed at a hacker event in Dallas on Wednesday night and ran it through our scanner at work. It and the process it followed is complete nonsense.

Ads

Ignoring the obvious - This week Applebees started advertising for a new bowl dish using the hashtag #IrresistABowls. I had to take a second look to make sure my dyslexia wasn't over active and that the tag read IrresistABowels or IrritableBowels . Turns out I wasn't the only one. I am sure someone on the ad team at Applebees got their butt chewed out. Or, did they do it on purpose like when Starbucks would misspell your name on purpose?

Hulu - The Hulu ad that followed Tom Brady posing mysterious images on his Instagram were perfectly timed, using the perfect influencer. This will turn out to be a Win-Win for Brady and Hulu. Shows you have power if you build the audience.
