Upcoming Council Meeting

Bordertown and surrounding area residents will have the opportunity to observe Council in its decision making process, when Council meets for its April Council Meeting in Bordertown. 

Tuesday 14 April 2020
5.00 pm at the Tatiara District Council Chambers 

All are welcome to attend as part of the gallery and the opportunity to address the meeting will arise during the public forum section which is held between 5.00pm - 5.30 pm.

COUNCIL UPDATE: Coronavirus (COVID-19) 

What an extraordinary few weeks it has been. We have seen our environment change from a somewhat distant virus to something now affecting every state and territory. It is dramatically changing how we live, interact and do business.

The situation is evolving literally by the hour as the virus continues to spread and its impact increases. We have put processes in place to ensure the ongoing delivery of essential Council services. Please read our update below.

Australian Government Economic Response to the Coronavirus

The Australian Government has announced an economic response totalling $17.6 billion to protect the economy and keep people in jobs. Additional household income and business support will flow through to strengthen the wider economy.
 
Business support available in response to coronavirus includes:
  • Increases to the Instant Asset Write-Off: from $30,000 to $150,000, and expanded access to include businesses with annual turnover less than $500 million until 30 June 2020.
  • Backing Business Investment: a time-limited 15 month incentive to support business investment and economic growth over the short-term, by accelerating depreciation deductions.
  • Boosting cash flow for employers: provides up to $25,000 back to small and medium-sized eligible businesses (minimum payment $2,000). The payment will provide temporary cash flow support to businesses that employ staff and have an annual turnover below $50 million.
  • Supporting apprentices and trainees: businesses that employ an apprentice or trainee may be eligible for a wage subsidy of 50% of their wage paid from 1 January 2020 to 30 September 2020.
  • Information regarding employer and business obligations and travelling for work.

Walkway Gallery - Vietnam: One in, All in

14 February - April 2020
An exhibition sharing the untold stories of Aboriginal South Australian Veterans of the Vietnam War. 

Featuring works by twelve Aboriginal artists, Vietnam: One in, All in captures the personal stories and military history of our Aboriginal veterans – inviting us to pause, reflect, recognise and honour our South Australian Aboriginal veterans. We can learn a lot from their stories, taking a lead from the Australian Army and Navy where it was, and still is, one in, all in. 
 
YMCA SA Youth Parliament - Applications are open!

YMCA Youth Parliament is a non-partisan program providing a platform for young people aged 15-25 to express their views on issues important to them, build leadership skills, gain parliamentary understanding, and learn about democracy.

A program run by young people for young people, YMCA Youth Parliament is an unmissable opportunity for under 25s to develop confidence, leadership skills and new opportunities, in a safe and supportive environment.

Participants take part in a two (2) day Training Weekend where they learn essential parliamentary and leadership skills to use during a six (6) day Parliament Week in July.

Who can apply?       Youth Parliament is open to anyone in
                                   South Australia aged 15-25 years old
Cost:                         There is a participant fee of $460 per
                                   person which covers meals, 
                                   accommodation and transport during
                                   Parliament Week (sponsorship
                                   assistance available)
Sponsorship:            Participants can receive assistance to
                                   seek external sponsorship for participant
                                   fees.
Rural and Regional 
Scholarships:              Travel Scholarships available.

Migrant Swim and Survive Program

Sunday, 9 February 2020, twenty eight participants in the Migrant Swim and Survive Program travelled by bus to Robe.  The main focus was on beach safety and they were hosted by the  Robe Surf Life Saving Club, who did a tremendous job!

Participants also had a picnic on the beach and did a bit of shopping in the main street of Robe.   

Parks & Gardens News

Tree Trimming at Padthaway

We have trimmed overhanging branches and dangerous limbs in Apex Park at Padthaway. Some more tree trimming will be done in the coming months to complete this work.

  • Shoulder Widening on Tatiara Road, Ramsay Terrace, Wirrega North Road and Cannawigara Road.
  • Roadside Vegetation Clearance - Ramsay Terrace, Cannawigara Road and on Champness Road.

FRRR - Strengthening Rural Communities Grant/s
Always open

Grants for communities in small, rural, regional and remote locations in Australia. This program has two tiers of funding: Small and Vital supports projects with grants up to $10,000; and Larger Leverage supports projects with grans from $10,001 to $25,000.
