Outreach Programmes

Summer Schools 2020

Applications now open

Applications are now open for the following Outreach Summer Schools.  

  • Year 9 Girls Engineering Summer School (11 – 15 August 2020)
  • Year 10 Insights into Science and Engineering (5 to 8 August 2020)
  • Year 11 STEM Challenge (1 to 3 July 2020)
  • Year 11 Medical Summer School  (25 to 28 August 2020)
  • Year 12 Sutton Trust Summer School (20 to 24 July 2020 or 27 to 31 July 2020)
  • Year 12 Work Experience Programme (6 to 10 July 2020)
Attending a summer school is a great way to discover what it is like to study at Imperial College London and what life is like as a student in London.

Girls Engineering Summer School

Applications are now open
11 – 15 August 2020

Come explore the breadth of engineering disciplines available at Imperial College London on this non-residential summer school. Working in groups and supported by undergraduate mentors, students will tackle a range of engineering challenges, using their knowledge of maths, physics, chemistry and biology.

The Maths Homework Club
Imperial Invention Rooms, White City
Every Wednesday during term time (commencing 26 February) 16.00 – 17.30.

The Homework Club supports students in Y9 to Y11 at both ends of the ability spectrum – those who need support with or who could excel at Maths – to help them reach their potential.

Sessions include homework or coursework support, revision support for pupils working towards exams and extension tasks for more able pupils. A hot meal is also included.

Weekly tutoring sessions are supported by Imperial student tutors who ensure that all participants receive close personalised support. There are no academic requirements to join this programme, we simply ask that you commit to attending the sessions available and bring your Maths homework with you.

Deadline: 23:59 on Sunday 23rd February 2020

Spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Local students will be given priority. Students who can travel to our Invention Rooms in White City for the scheduled dates and times of the programme will be considered if more spaces become available.

School Campus Visits - Talk and Tour

If you are interested in visiting Imperial for a STEM talk and a tour of campus by current students, we have the follow mornings available.

Please fill in this form to register your interest.

Our campus visits are aimed at students in Year 8 to Year 12. Schools would be expected to bring no more than 25 students from the same Key Stage. 
For KS5, students need to be studying at least two STEM A levels.

Please note by filling in the form, it is only to show your interest. We will contact you directly if your school has been chosen.

Events

Perfect for A level students, particularly those with an interest in policy as well as science. This launch will include short talks, a panel discussion with academics as well as the NHS and medical devices industry. Event details here.
Hello World Hack for Primary schools
Imperial, South Kensington
24 March 2020 at 10.00-14.00
 
Hosted by Imperial’s Computing and Maths Departments. The Hackathon aims to introduce computer science to girls in Year 3 to Year 5 to show them what can be achieved by learning to code. 

Led by one or more female role models working or studying at Imperial, this day will include short talks and hands-on activities. It will conclude with an awards ceremony rewarding the teams that have performed exceptionally well throughout the day.

How to apply: 
Schools are invited to bring up to 15 girls (plus accompanying staff of any gender) to this event. Schools who meet two or more of the following criteria will be prioritised: schools with a high proportion of children entitled to free school meals, schools with little or no computing provision, underperforming schools or those situated in an area with high levels of deprivation.
 
To register your interest please email Dr Jackie Bell (Jaclyn.bell@imperial.ac.uk) by 5pm on Monday 2nd March 2020. Schools with a high proportion of students entitled to free school meals or with very little or no computing provision are strongly encouraged to apply.
Urban Explorer Challenge Workshop
Natural History Museum 
23 March or 20 April 2020 - KS3 Science teachers and students

Hands-on activities and exploring the Wildlife Garden, students will generate questions about the human impacts on local biodiversity.

Students will showcase their great ideas from the workshop. They will have the opportunity to share their projects with their peers, the Museum and environmental sector scientists.
