Chess Tournament Last weekend, many of Loreto’s chess players took part in the first junior chess tournament of the year, organised as part of the Gibraltar International Chess Festival.
Our younger players gained invaluable experience playing in the Under 10 section, which will help them to develop their chess skills.
A special mention and many congratulations to Chloe Kou (2nd place) and Zack Hamilton (3rd place) who competed in the Under 12 section on Saturday. They both returned on Sunday to play in the under 14 section, where they achieved a joint 3rd place. Well done to them and to all who competed over the weekend.
Any middle school child who wishes to play chess should speak to Mrs Garner about joining the Chess Club which takes place every Wednesday at lunchtime.
Hot or Cold? This week Year 1 have been exploring hot and cold places around the world and the animals that live there. We have made African sunsets and Arctic pictures.
Marmalade Making Our Gardening Club visited Vicky's Natural Kitchen where they experienced a professional kitchen environment to produce marmalade. The children picked the oranges from the school garden hours before they manufactured the marmalade from scratch. They learnt about hygiene, knife safety and cutting techniques along with understanding the process of making the marmalade. As part of the 'Plant 2 Plate' project each club member has produced their own label for the jars which they have taken home.
Our "Plant to Plate" Gardening Club marmalade will be available from Vicky's Natural Kitchen on Engineer's Lane from Monday 10th February. There is limited availability for this fresh, local and sustainable marmalade which can be purchased for £3.00 per jar, with peel.
Balls Of Fun Our Reception children have been exploring ways of controlling different balls! This improved their co-ordination along with improving their accuracy of passing and catching.
Time For Second Gear! Our #TrafficFreeTuesdays walk to school doubled its numbers this week, with 20 children walking from the South District, with over 40 in total. Children who walked from the border were given a Police escort all the way to the school with two officers walking the entire route.
Eruptions In Class Year 3 have been learning about igneous rocks and volcanoes. As apart of a practical experiment the children were shown how a volcano can erupt.
Year 7 Confirmations On Thursday this week, our Year 7 pupils had a morning of prayer and reflection with Mgr. Paul Bear, in preparation for their Confirmation later that afternoon. The children attended St. Joseph’s Church with their families and received the Sacrament from Bishop Carmel Zammit. Our award-winning Middle School Choir provided wonderful hymns throughout the service. Afterwards all were invited back to Loreto to celebrate.
Staff Joint CPD Today staff from Prior Park joined staff from Loreto at the school for a day of Catholic CPD. The Mission of a Catholic School and Christian Life was presented to staff by Charlotte Cummins.
The Nautilus Project - Competition The Nautilus Project are excited to announce that they will be hosting their 4th annual World Oceans Day School Competition. The theme this year is New Decade New Habits.
