Greetings North Families,
February is finally upon us and it sure is nice to finally see the sun! Also, the Groundhog did not see his shadow, which means we should have an early spring. Isn’t that great news??? I am sure as parents you are ready for warmer temperatures so that you can enjoy the outdoors. Let’s hope for no more snow and more sunshine!
We have a few important dates this month. The first date to remember is February 7th which is 2 Hour Early Release Schedule. Students will begin the school day at the normal time, but be released at 1:15pm.The next date to remember in February is Parent/Teacher conferences on the 13th from 4:00pm-7:00pm. Please come to North during this time to meet with teachers in their classrooms. We appreciate you attending so that we can partner together for your child’s success. Finally, the last date to keep in mind is February 17th as there is no school due to President’s Day.
This year, we have offered Targeted Services After School for students at North. This program has been a great success and we appreciate all the parents who have turned in forms. We will be offering one last session beginning in March and ending early May. We will again be mailing the forms home to those students who qualify for the program. Please watch for these forms and return them as soon as possible. Students in this program will be provided with a snack, meal, and transportation home.
I hope you all have an amazing February and I look forward to seeing you at conferences on February 13th!

Winter is here!
As the weather continues to get colder, please make sure your student comes to school wearing jackets, hats, scarves, and mittens to stay warm. Also, open-toed shoes and flip flops are not appropriate at school as they are a slip and trip hazard on slippery floors and stairs. We don't want students getting hurt. Students may also be more exposed to the elements. They may be at a risk for developing frostbite if we were to have an emergency evacuation, having to exit the building promptly. We also suggest bringing an extra layer to keep in lockers as students are not allowed to wear jackets throughout their day. Thank you

Jonas Malmanger, an eighth grade student North Junior High, won the school wide competition of the National Geographic Bee on January 23rd.
This win awards Jonas a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship.
Over 800 students participated in this exciting, school-wide challenge that took place over several weeks. The school bee, at which students answered questions about United States and world geography, was the first round in the 29th annual National Geographic Bee.
The top five finishers in our school geography bee were:
1st - Jonas Malmanger - 8th Grade
2nd - Bennett Wochnick - 8th Grade
3rd - Nate Copsey - 8th Grade
4th - Mason Schmitz - 8th Grade
5th - Emmett Machula - 6th Grade
We congratulate them on this accomplishment!
Thousands of schools around the United States are participating in the 2020 bee. The school champions, including Jonas, will take a written test, and up to 100 students qualify for the Minnesota State Geography Bee. The National Geographic Society will provide an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., for state winners to participate in the national championship rounds. The first place national champion will receive a $50,000 scholarship, a lifetime membership in the society including a subscription to National Geographic magazine, a trip and $500.
