February's Demo Artist was Janet Nunn.

Janet is an award-winning watercolorist known for her use of bright color and blending techniques. Janet’s works have been featured in Splash 14, Splash 16, and Watercolor Artist magazine, and she has published several of her lessons in her book, “How Do You Paint That.” Her popular watercolor workshops take abstract techniques and make them realistic, all in an effort to simplify the watercolor painting process.

Some of the demo highlights:
She uses Dr. Ph. Martin’s Hydrus Liquid Watercolors and showed how to activate them with a mister. She taught us how to make roses with plastic wrap, and showed how to make paint marks with cotton string and a credit card.

Jan/Feb Meeting Summary

The Broomfield Art Guild member meetings have gotten off to a great start! In January we conducted a member interest survey and brainstorming session to solicit ideas to advance our Guild mission and purposes. In February, we presented the results of the survey and brainstorming and proposed some program changes for 2020.

The current state of the Guild is excellent; we have great members who are active, engaged, attend meetings regularly, and participate in Guild activities (shows, party). Guild activities are supported by member dues and entrance fees; we are in the black. Guild members have high interest in developing art skills, socializing with other artists, showing and possibly selling art, and learning through demos and workshops. However, they have low interest in business details and committing time to the Guild outside monthly meetings; understandable given everyone's busy schedules!

Therefore, our proposed 2020 focus will be on trying new ideas and meeting member needs with less effort and broader participation
  1. Increase the Guild connection and visibility in Broomfield (Make Our Art Scene!).
  2. Focus on one member show with Affordable Art Sale at Front Range Library on October 1-27, 2020.
  3. Focus on new art-making and display venues (BCAH) and online marketplace.
  4. Monthly meetings focused on socialization and learning with interactive themes and artist demos. Possible evening sessions for members who cannot attend day meetings.
  5. Set up teams to run programs more efficiently and with broader participation.
  6. Collaboration/referrals to other area art groups for shows, display venues, and workshops to supplement Guild offerings. More fun and details to come in future meetings; join us!
