Welcome to the February 2020 update from the parish church in St Weonards.

Sunday 9 February - 9.30am
All Age Worship
.
Everyone is welcome at our All Age service on Sunday at the usual time of 9.30am.  (Despite the forecast, we still plan to meet together in the church ... but please take extra care in the stormy weather.)
Following on from the #EverydayFaith campaign, we'll be thinking about where God is in our daily lives, and we we find fullness in Him in the middle of our busy weeks.
Please remember to bring an object that you use or come across in your daily life.  Come along if you can, shelter from Storm Ciara, and stay for a chat over tea and coffee after the service.

Thursday 20 February - 10.30am
Coffee, Cake & Worship

Our regular mid-week service in St Weonard's Church.  If you need a lift, please contact Frances Phillips on 01981 240032.  We start with refreshments and a chance for a chat, followed by a short act of worship.  All welcome!

Sunday 23 February - 11.00am
Family Communion

All welcome at our monthly parish communion service. Do get in touch beforehand if you would like a lift to the service. (Don't forget we have a wheelchair, ramp and accessible toilet available in the church ;-)

Ash Wednesday, 26 February - 7.30pm
 Holy Communion with Ashing
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent.  Ashes made from palm crosses are blessed and are used to make crosses on people's foreheads.  The custom dates back to the middle ages.
Our Ash Wednesday service sets the tone for Lent, with quiet readings and hymns and a focus on penitence (saying sorry for and turning away from sin).
We are reminded: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ."
#LiveLent: Care for God’s Creation is the Church of England's Lent Campaign for 2020. With weekly themes shaped around the first Genesis account of creation, it explores the urgent need for humans to value and protect the abundance God has created. This year’s #LiveLent challenge offers 40 short reflections and suggested actions to help you, your family and your church live in greater harmony with God, neighbour and nature.

It has been inspired and informed by the Archbishop of Canterbury's 2020 Lent Book, Saying Yes to Life by Ruth Valerio (SPCK).

Why not encourage your family to get involved?  You can sign up for daily reflections by email, or purchase a short booklet with Lent readings, reflections and actions (and there's a version for children too).  Or for more in-depth study and reflection, you can purchase a copy of Saying Yes to Life.

In other news ...

Many people came to St Weonard’s Church on 1 February to remember and give thanks for the life of Geoff Jones.  Please keep his family and friends in your prayers at this time.

Garway Youth Group
For over 40 years, Faye Rolands has been running a youth group from 7.00-8.30pm every other Friday at New House Farm.  After games and refreshments, the leaders invite the young people to watch a short video or listen to a visiting speaker and discuss big questions about life.  If you know any children aged 10 upwards who would like to attend, please get in touch with Alex Herbert.

For your prayers ...
Please continue to hold up in prayer those in need in our community.  A small group in the parish meet for an informal time of prayer every couple of weeks.  We meet next on 11 February.  If you would like to join us from time to time, please get in touch with Stephen Herbert.

And finally, a date for your diaries ...

Saturday 11 April (pm)
Easter Egg Hunt

Suitable for all the family -- prizes for intrepid young egg hunters, yummy afternoon teas for grown-ups.  Help build an Easter garden.

Don't miss it!

In aid of Garway Pre-School.
