Looking Ahead With 20/20 Vision

Arizona Financial Face-Off

We’re back for another year of fun, food, and most importantly, finance! This year, we’re making big changes and looking forward to taking AFF to a brand new location. AFF will be hosted at the University of Arizona Recreation Center and will be on April 18th, 2020. Mark your calendars and get your teams together, because it’s almost time for your students to put their personal finance knowledge into action.

The University of Arizona Take Charge Cats’ goal is to educate students in southern Arizona about personal finance. We want to empower students to invest in themselves and be ready for whatever the future may have in store. A fun way to celebrate students learning about finance is to test their knowledge on playing fields as opposed to classrooms alone. This is why we incorporate games, sports, and prizes into a day about students showing what they know.

Students will have the opportunity to answer a question about finance before running a football play, get quizzed on budgeting while catching and throwing a volleyball, deliver empowering speeches in a case competition, and so much more.
We’re ready for AFF 2020–are you? Get your 2020 vision and invest in yourself while having fun with AFF!

Why Is The New Location So Exciting?

In past years, AFF has been graciously hosted by Dodge Middle School. We have loved every second of previous competitions at this amazing location and are extremely grateful for their support. This year, we look forward with 2020 vision and hope for growth in AFF participation. With this in mind, we believe that the University of Arizona Recreation Center will be a perfect location to allow more students to showcase what they have learned from our Take Charge Cats series of workshops.

For high school students in southern Arizona, it is highly likely that the University of Arizona is a familiar friend. Being able to compete in one of the most exciting events of the year while on the University of Arizona campus is an opportunity few can resist (we know we can’t!). Not only will the event be close to the excitement of campus, but it will host a large amount of participants with plenty of room to prepare for the case competition, enjoy lunch with fellow classmates, and marvel at the beauty of the University of Arizona campus.

Need Some Help Goal Setting?

MindTools has a helpful article that explains the 5 golden rules of goal setting. If you need help not only setting but sticking to your goals, here are some tips so that you keep your 2020 vision.

1. Set goals that motivate you
Setting goals that motivate you means that they need to be something you really want to reach. Maybe you don’t feel like you want to save money but you really want to buy a new car. The best way to do that? Motivate yourself for that car. Think about your wants, needs and values. Goals that you highly value are often the best for motivation. Motivation is key!

2. Set SMART goals
Don’t remember what SMART goals are from workshops? SMART goals are goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound. Your goals should be specific: what exactly do you want to achieve? They should be measurable: how much will they actually cost? Your goals should also be attainable: how can you reach your goal in a practical sense? They should be realistic: can you actually achieve your goal with your current resources? Finally, your goals should be time bound: in what time frame will you accomplish the goal at hand? SMART goals are useful for every aspect of life (not just finances) so make sure to keep these in mind!

3. Set goals in writing
Whether you keep your goals as notes in your phone, sticky notes on your walls, or in a notebook, use whatever method works for you to have your goals written down in a way that you are constantly reminded of what you’re working towards.

4. Make an action plan
How are you going to reach your goals? If you know you want to paint a house but don’t have a plan of how to start, where to get paint, and when you’re going to get it done; it makes painting the house nearly impossible. The same is true of your goals! Set an action plan so you know how to do it.

5. Stick with it!
A goal is only as good as it is carried out and achieved so remember to stick to your goal and invest in yourself! You have the power to make great goals and achieve them.
