Microboard, Aroha or Self-Directed Support Organization Survey

Microboards Ontario (MBO) provides leadership in the development of Microboards through education, advocacy and support to people and communities across Ontario.

MBO wants to hear about and learn from the experience of people with disabilities, their families and/or loved ones who have established their own supportive not-for profit organization.  If you or someone you know has established this type of organization sometimes referred to as a Microboard, Aroha or Self-Directed Support Organization, please complete the survey by visiting:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/microboardsontario (please note your responses are anonymous). The data collected will help inform the strategic direction of Microboards Ontario over the next few years.

You can learn more, visit the website at www.microboardsontario.com
If you would like to receive information or wish to share your story and insights,  please contact the Provincial Consultant, Judith McGill at jlmcgill11@gmail.com or call  (416) 997-331.

MAID: Vulnerable Person Standard

Evidence-based safeguards to
protect the lives of all Canadians

The Vulnerable Persons Standard was created to support the development of Canada's response to the Carter decision, and assist policy-makers now working to regulate the practice of medical assistance in dying. All aspects of the Standard remain relevant following the 2019 Truchon decision.

The Standard incorporates five evidence-based safeguards intended to protect the lives of Canadians. These safeguards help to ensure that Canadians requesting assistance from physicians to end their life can do so without jeopardizing the lives of vulnerable persons who may be subject to coercion, inducement to suicide and abuse.

The Power of Disability: 10 Lessons for Surviving, Thriving and Changing the World by Al Etmanski

AL ETMANSKI is a community organizer, social entrepreneur, and author. He’s been a parent activist in the disability world since his daughter Liz was born. He led the closure of institutions and segregated schools in British Columbia, and founded Canada’s first Family Support Institute. In 1989 he co-founded Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) with his wife Vickie Cammack. While at PLAN he lobbied into existence the world’s first Disability Savings Plan.

The Power of Disability was written to correct what history has overlooked and to shine a light on people with disabilities as authorities on creativity, resilience, justice, love, sexuality, dealing with adversity and living a good life. His intent is to encourage action that removes the barriers that limit everyone’s inclusion, participation and contribution.

Here’s a link to all the places where you can buy the print, electronic and audio editions and much more information including book excerpts, Table of Contents and early reviews.   To pique your interest get the full Introduction (PDF)
