This week has been a busy one! The children have enjoyed extending their swimming skills with Tracey and Mrs D during our swimming lessons. The focus has been on developing water safety skills such as using a safe entry into water, survival strokes and diving. Parents are most welcome to come and see what your children have learnt next week. Times are as follows: Piwakawaka Monday 12:30 Springfield Pool Kohanga Monday 1:00 Springfield Pool Ruru Tuesday 12:30 Sheffield Pool
The children have also been busy creating some art for our shared spaces and classrooms. To celebrate Waitangi Day, Ruru and Kohanga worked collaboratively to create a korowai - a Maori cloak. Each child created two feathers which represented themselves and the values they consider as important. Please feel free to come and look at this display in the shared space. Ruru have also created a waka, which is built around the concept of ‘he waka eke noa.’ This translates as ‘we are all in this together.’ Parents are most welcome to come into Ruru to see this. On Wednesday evening, the school held a meeting around cyber safety. Thank you to those parents who attended. As discussed at the meeting, our Digital Citizen ‘Code of Conduct’ will be sent home today. Please ensure you have read this document with your child and discussed the content. Signed forms are to be returned to the office. Please note there is one form per child. The Year 6 students have been busy applying for leadership roles in the school. Interviews have now concluded and children will be notified of the outcome early next week. Each year we have several PAL leaders (Physical Activity Leaders) who run sports activities for students at our school. As part of this leadership role, selected students will be travelling to Darfield Domain on the 25th of February to undergo some training. If your child is involved in this, they will receive a notice next week outlining what they will need for the day. The Top Team competition kicks off on Friday the 21st of February. This is an event for Year 5 and 6 students. Thank you to those parents who have offered to transport children to and from Glentunnel School. This is a half day event, so we will be returning to school by lunchtime. Children are to wear mufti. Please ensure your child has sunscreen on prior to coming to school and they will need a large morning tea, drink and their school sunhat.
Please note there is NO KAPA HAKA next week due to the Year 5 and 6 group being away.
