Back to Basics.

This week I have a bunch of dope links to share—you know, the stuff you subscribed to 😍

The Ugliest Color

Did you know that Pantone 448 C has been referred to as the ugliest color in the world? A research agency selected this “drab, dark brown” after three months, and multiple studies. They were hired by the Australian government to find a color that was so repugnant that if it were on tobacco products, it would dissuade people from smoking. So, if you ever need to introduce a new dark pattern into your designs, you can use this color on your unsubscribe buttons. Lol.

The (Unofficial) Apple Archive

This site is full of gems about the history of Apple, showing the different work released across the decades. It was dedicated, by the maker, to the unsung studio designers, copywriters, producers, ADs, CDs, and everyone else who creates lovely things. “Dedicated to those who stayed up late and got up early to get on the family iMac to recreate event slides in Keynote.”

Tiffany Typeface

Check out this elegant display serif. I love the full, heavy styles—I find the decorative seifs gorgeous. I started using it in a project, and I love it.

Charlot Kirstense, Illustrator

Charlot is an Illustrator who believes that representation is vital to our development. Her art often represents women of color in the hope of empowering them and changing their narrative. Check out her comics, editorial work, and book illustrations!

Seeds Design System by Sprout

In case you’re looking for design system inspiration, check out Sprout’s creative hub. The system includes everything from brand, visual, writing, components, and patterns—pretty thorough.

Milanote 2.0

Milanote has a fresh new look (and dark mode!) The cool stuff is the new templates, like mood boards, design briefs, personas, user journey maps—fantastic for designers. I’ll be honest, I don’t use this tool, but I know other people that like this kind of chaotic note-taking experience. Maybe it’s your thing too :)
