Zonta International District 4 Governor’s Letter, Feb 9, 2020

Dear <<First Name>>

As always, I update you after each of the eight D4 Board & Chairs Meetings we hold every biennium. Understanding how busy we all are, I keep it at one page.

CONVENTION 2020: Registration is $410 until Feb. 13. Register now to save $60. You must register before booking a room. Fifty more hotel rooms have just been added to the Zonta Block at the reduced rate. Registrations are running ahead of what Yokohama’s were. Register now so you won’t miss out. Call to Convention will be 90 days before & Clubs will then submit their Delegates. Make sure to elect your Delegate/s & Alternate by April or May. If you do not have one, ask a nearby Club to be your proxy.

WORKSHOPS: In the Fall, I asked Governor-Elect Janice Durmis to plan the agenda for our Workshops. She has been working hard to plan ways for you to learn & understand more about your D4. Perhaps it will encourage some to serve in leadership. See the D4 website to register for any or all “Building Our Future”  in Brampton-Caledon, April 4 – Oil City-Franklin, April 26 – Hamburg-Orchard Park, May 9.

COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN: CSW is at the United Nations in New York City on March 9 – 20. Zonta International  is presenting at some of the venues nearby. You may attend for as many days as you’d like. Most Zontians go during the beginning days. It is fascinating to choose from among so many presentations on problems all over the world & all the organizations who are helping to solve them.

DAY AT THE UN: Area 2 Director Nita McCown reported on a Climate Change Briefing. They suggested that people check their portfolios to insure that their funds are supporting companies that protect the environment. ZI has already been examining our investments for this purpose. It is suggested that we spend time on this at meetings & workshops & consider it as an issue for a Club Advocacy project.   Note: The UN Delegates Dining Room is now open to visitors so when you’re in NYC, you can eat there.

SERVICE:  Co-Chairs Judy Powers & Sheena Poole ask that Clubs report all their Service Projects to them. They are compiling a Complete List so other Clubs can ask about service projects they’d like to do. Contact them to ensure that we have destinations for Birthing Kits before meeting to assemble them.   ZI Service Recognition Awards given at Convention will be chosen from the Centennial Award winners.

COMMUNICATIONS: Co-Chair Sandra Cronk encourages all Clubs, Committees, Areas, etc. to use the “Go To Meeting” program. Their Committee will assist you in using this online meeting program. Technology can help us to accomplish more; do it efficiently & attract  new members.

CENTENNIAL: Traveling Flag is now visiting Area 6 Clubs. Area 4 will be the last to host the Flag before it goes to be displayed at Convention. Those Clubs wanting the flag for events should contact  D4 Flag Chair Janice Durmis to see if it can be arranged. Area 3 Director Jenny Johnston said that the Clubs who have not yet given in their Archival Bags for the Time Capsule submit them at the Workshops. The free Premiere viewing of “Marian de Forest: The Spirit of Zonta” film is on Feb. 27, 6:30-7:00 at North Park Theater, 1428  Hertel Ave., Buffalo, N.Y.  Reception will follow. See other events on the D4 website.
