February 2020

Welcome to this edition of SSP News, which includes a letter from a headteacher,
the date of a major fundraising event and news of building work at Motjane.
St Bernard's Primary School

This letter was received from Banjwayini Shongwe, headteacher of St Bernard’s School addressed to all SSP supporters:

“Dear SSP supporters

This is to acknowledge your presence in the lives of our children, teachers and the entire community of St Bernard’s School.

My three-year stay feels like 30 years at St Bernard’s. SSP, you’ve done so much in these few years of my stay. You have made life easy for me such that I could not feel the 180km return journey every day. SSP has kept me going.

Honestly, I'm not sure where I would have sourced the funds to repair our school kitchen which was closed for 8 months because it had fallen. Our efforts to involve government failed. SSP opened her hands and repaired the kitchen for us.

As if that was not enough, by buying us soup, SSP opened the very same kitchen which was closed because we ran out of soup and had to wait for the next Government consignment.

If it was not for SSP, the teachers would still be using pit latrines. Although there's enough water, we had no funds to install the toilet system. Each time we have visitors from anywhere in the world, we are now proud to show them our restroom, with flush toilets, thanks to SSP.

SSP has changed the lives of all stakeholders of St Bernard’s. We are now in the process of completing a pair of semi-detached teacher's houses because SSP is paying the builders which the school could not afford to pay. (see picture)

May God bless you all.

Banjwayini”

Incidentally, we have just heard that Banjwayini has been promoted to become headteacher at Nkhaba School. This is a school we have worked with for many years and is much closer to her home.

Diary Date
On Saturday 4 July 2020, at John Crosse House in Bedford, there will be a Pimms summer event in support of SSP. More details later, but please put the date in your diary. Thank you.
Motjane Primary School

SSP has moved our builders on to this school site, where there are completing the kitchen. The school used to cook for children in an open, corrugated iron shack. They started to build a proper kitchen but ran out of money, so SSP are finishing the job for them. See photos.
Thank You

Thank you to everyone who supported SSP and CF in 2019 - it's you who makes the difference to the children of eSwatini. Particular thanks this month to all those who pay by Standing Orders or through the JustGiving or Virgin Giving channels. Also to Alan and Katrina Jackson, Tom Chown and John and Julia Warren.
Can you help?

SSP has to raise all the money it spends. Could you arrange an afternoon tea, undertake a challenge such as a walk, or raise money for us some other way? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Foreign Currency

We can also collect your spare foreign currency. If you would like to donate any, please contact us. Thank you.
