A view of Australia from fine leg game
At the completion of Saturday's 4th eleven clash with Barkly Street Uniting, RPBCC’s own Craig Dodson completed the final leg of his ‘A View of Australia from fine leg’ journey, representing ten clubs around Australia to raise awareness for men’s mental health.
Amongst his travels, Doddsy kicked off his journey with Pomborneit Cricket Club back in October, played a game at Rupertswood Cricket Club - Birthplace of The Ashes but the fairytale was always to end his journey at Ransford Oval. After 10,000kms over five different states.
Saturday's 4th eleven saw several former RPBCC players return to the club, including a handful of premiership heroes as well as a life member or two. In no particular order, we welcomed back Andrew Boyle, Matthew Corrigan, Brad Cue, Stephen Dwyer, Scott Ferrier, Nick Hall, Scott Mitchell, Paul Wilkie to RPBCC with Doddsy, Scott Condon and Glenn Contessa rounding out the eleven.
Congratulations must go out to Stephen "Smeats" Dwyer who took his 200th wicket for the club - 18 years after taking his 199th. Nick Hall we believe also took his 1st wicket for RPBCC on the day
For the record we won quite comfortably in the end with Doddsy taking a few wickets and hitting the winning runs (and we were on the beers before 5pm), so pretty much the perfect ending.
Stumps are pulled on the adventure of a lifetime! Game 10 done and dusted at my home club Royal Park Brunswick Cricket Club with a team of brilliant mates! A few wickets and red ink at the end.
To everyone who has played a role in the adventure THANK YOU on behalf of myself and Gotcha4Life..time for a beer!
A MASSIVE thank you again for Saturday to all the players and club.
Not doubt you are all paying the price this morning with an array of aches and pains.
I simply could not have asked for a better ways to finish my adventure. To top things off we raised $975 on the day, which is a fantastic achievement and speaks volumes for RPBCC as a club.
Cheers
Doddsy
