Councilmember Cyndi Nguyen | Italian Company to Establish Operations in New Orleans East
 
In a statement released by Councilmember Nguyen related to progress made after the tornado that tore through New Orleans East on February 7, 2017, it was reported that on February 6, 2020 the New Orleans City Council approved an Industrial Tax Exemption (ITE) to incentivize Iriapak, a 25-year old business based in Vergiate, Italy, to establish new production in the area. Iriapak specializes in the printing of plastic paper packaging products used by the top producers of home paper products such as tissue and paper towels.

In other news from the February 6, 2020 City Council meeting, the Council authorized the expansion of an existing mobile home park in New Orleans East and approved an affordable housing development to replace blighted property on Chef Menteur Highway. Read more.

New Orleans City Business | Indoor amusement center in New Orleans East to open

 

According to a news release, referenced by New Orleans City Business, a multimillion-dollar entertainment complex in New Orleans East was scheduled to open Sunday, February 9, 2020.
 
Optimus Entertainment is opening an indoor amusement center in a newly renovated, 42,000-square-foot retail outlet near New Orleans East Hospital and East New Orleans Regional Library. The 24,000-square-foot entertainment center has over 50 games, two laser tag arenas, bumper cars, a 12 seat 12-D interactive theater, virtual reality gaming, a soft play indoor toddler playground with a ball pit and six party rooms to rent for parties and corporate events. New Links Phase II “Reimagine Our Transit Network” Community Meeting

Parameters of the three concepts:

  • Concept A: This concept will look the most similar to the current network, but with tweaks to increase connectivity and improve on-time performance 
  • Concept B: This concept will show a network reoriented around multiple bus lines that come every 15 minutes-or-less
  • Concept C: This will be the most far-reaching concept, designed to really overhaul the RTA and JeT network to speed up rides between several different regional hubs, with a redesigned local network serving each hub.

New deadline for residents to pay their 2019 property taxes.
The deadline was extended in light of the cyber-security incident on Dec. 13, 2019. Residents are now able to use the same options to pay their property taxes as they did before the incident — online, in person at City Hall, or by mail using the address provided on the return envelope of the mailing received over the holidays.

The City will also provide curbside drop-off service for property tax payments, during normal City Hall hours (8 a.m.-5 p.m.), Feb. 12, 13 and 14 at 1300 Perdido St. As a reminder, City Hall staff will be available to process check and money order payments only. Treasury is not accepting cash for property tax payments.

The New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council (NOCDC), is a non-profit organization that arranges professional appointments and cultural excursions for nearly 450 international visitors sent to New Orleans annually by the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program and other government and private agencies.  NOCDC is a dynamic, multi-faceted, internationally-focused organization promoting global diplomacy “one handshake at a time.”
 

The Diplomacy Council is seeking an Executive Director who will be responsible for overseeing a small staff and volunteers and who will work closely with the board to ensure that the organization continues to operate efficiently and effectively to best promote its mission and increase its visibility.  You will be the face of the organization, working closely with government officials, and local business and civic leaders. NOCDC is a close-knit group that places high value on collaboration, recognition, communication, and following through with plans and details. In order to be most effective, candidates should have experience with grant writing, event planning, bookkeeping, marketing and fundraising.  Applicants should have a courteous and tactful demeanor, be sensitive to other cultures, and possess exceptional written, communication, organizational, and computer skills (Microsoft Office). A Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three years’ work experience required. Experience with international businesses and/or organizations is a plus.
