Councilmember Cyndi Nguyen | Italian Company to Establish Operations in New Orleans East
In a statement released by Councilmember Nguyen related to progress made after the tornado that tore through New Orleans East on February 7, 2017, it was reported that on February 6, 2020 the New Orleans City Council approved an Industrial Tax Exemption (ITE) to incentivize Iriapak, a 25-year old business based in Vergiate, Italy, to establish new production in the area. Iriapak specializes in the printing of plastic paper packaging products used by the top producers of home paper products such as tissue and paper towels.

In other news from the February 6, 2020 City Council meeting, the Council authorized the expansion of an existing mobile home park in New Orleans East and approved an affordable housing development to replace blighted property on Chef Menteur Highway. Read more.

New Orleans City Business | Indoor amusement center in New Orleans East to open
According to a news release, referenced by New Orleans City Business, a multimillion-dollar entertainment complex in New Orleans East was scheduled to open Sunday, February 9, 2020.
Optimus Entertainment is opening an indoor amusement center in a newly renovated, 42,000-square-foot retail outlet near New Orleans East Hospital and East New Orleans Regional Library. The 24,000-square-foot entertainment center has over 50 games, two laser tag arenas, bumper cars, a 12 seat 12-D interactive theater, virtual reality gaming, a soft play indoor toddler playground with a ball pit and six party rooms to rent for parties and corporate events.
