$36,000 kick start for Port's best and brightest

A BIG congrats to our Mayoral Academic Scholarships recipients! A partnership between Council and local businesses, this program recognises the brightest young stars in our region, giving Port Stephens students starting TAFE or University the opportunity to receive a $2000 scholarship to help cover the cost of their studies.
Our sincerest thanks to this year's sponsors for their support and for helping our local youth to achieve their goals and fulfil their dreams.

Increasing opportunity and inclusion at PSC

Port Stephens Council is the latest Hunter organisation to join Castle Personnel’s Inclusive 100 initiative that aims to increase employment and the social inclusion of people living with a disability. In joining the Inclusive 100, Council has made a pledge to hire more people with a disability.

“We have nearly 5000 people living with disability in Port Stephens and anything Council can do to help improve employment opportunities and inclusion for our residents is a big win," said Mayor Ryan Palmer.

“Our pledge to the Inclusive 100 aligns with our commitment to developing an equitable, diverse and inclusive workforce which is representative of our entire community. We recognise the importance of relationships with organisations like Castle Personnel in supporting us to achieve our diversity goals,” Council's Corporate Services Manager Carmel Foster said.

Get your tourism idea off the ground
Do you have a great idea for creating a new or expanding an existing tourism-related product or service?
The Port Stephens Start House program will explore, innovate and test your idea’s viability, and connect you with a growing network of industry experts.  By the end of the program, you will feel more confident about the practical and financial aspects of your idea, and have a clear view of what to do next. You’ll have a good understanding about what support is required, from whom and how to ask for it.  This program is valued at $4,000 and is available to a limited number of participants for only $99.
Applications for the program are now open - register to attend a free information session at either Nelson Bay or Medowie or click the link below for more info.

$1700 raised for RFS, thousands of calories burned

A massive shout out to the 142 fit folks who participated in Lakeside Leisure Centre's Aquathon last Tuesday. Participants and volunteers raised $1700 for the Soldiers Point Rural Fire Service with this money going towards the replacement of the UHF Radio System that was destroyed in this year's bush fires.
The Aquathon fell just shy of beating the Guinness World Record for mass aqua aerobics, but smashed the record for being fit and fabulous.
