Jim Crow of the North: Documentary Screening & Discussion

Hosted by the Hale Elementary School and Armatage Parents Welcoming Equity Committees

Wednesday, March 11, 7:00 PM, Justice Page Middle School (1 W. 49th Street)

Why does Minneapolis suffer some of the worst racial disparities in the nation?
One answer is the spread of racist, restrictive real estate covenants in the early 20th century. These policies dramatically impact our city and schools now because of the housing segregation and the vastly inequitable property values and distribution of wealth they caused. As we consider the MPS Comprehensive District Design, understanding this history and its lasting legacy is vitally important.

Jim Crow of the North is based on the work of the University of MN’s research project, Mapping Prejudice. The panel will include Daniel Pierce Bergin, Jim Crow of the North Producer, and Kirsten Delegard, Mapping Prejudice Project Director.

Please Join the Hale Elementary School and Armatage Montessori School Welcoming Equity Committees on March 11 at 7:00 PM in the Justice Page Middle School auditorium for a screening and discussion. The event is free and open to all!

Adults Night Out for Armatage

Book your babysitter and buy your tickets today for a night of food, fun and fundraising!

The Adults of Armatage will come together on Sunday, March 15th at Tinto Kitchen to play games, win raffles, and enjoy delicious food and drink for a great cause: our students!

In addition to being a ton of fun, this critical direct-to-school fundraiser allows Principal Franks to stretch the Armatage budget in remarkable ways. In the past this has included making band available to all 4th and 5th graders, and expanding art and science instruction.

Learn more and purchase tickets at https://armatage-foster.eventbrite.com or print and return this flyer in your child’s orange folder.
And remember, if you have a donation or a connection to a donor for our online fundraiser and raffle, please be in touch!

Thank you for your support - we truly cannot do this without you!

Family Inclusion Celebration: We value diverse perspectives at Armatage

Join us Friday, March 20th

What is Armatage’s Family Inclusion Celebration? This is an opportunity to honor the family traditions and rich culture throughout our school community. Each class will go on a gallery walk around the building to observe cultural artifacts from the Somali museum and our own Armatage families. There will be several stations in the Little Gym where students and families can reflect on their identities and learn more about others’ heritages.

How can you help?

1) Volunteer by signing up here

2) Share an artifact or item of clothing related to your culture or heritage. These will be displayed in the Little Gym. Parent volunteers will watch over the artifacts/clothing and answer questions about them. Please fill out the Family Artifacts Form

3) Send a family photo to ELL teacher David Luiken to be included in a slide show. Send digital photos by Friday, March 13th to David.Luiken@mpls.k12.mn.us.

4) Come celebrate at the Family Inclusion Celebration!
