Six strategies to help children transition through their day

In a typical day children play, dance, paint, eat, sleep, read and in between they transition.

Here are six strategies to help with more successful transitions:

1. Give a transition warning and individual support

2. Sing the directions

3. Use play and children’s interests

4. Choose your words carefully

5. Use visual cues

6. Give specific positive feedback after transitions

Work can be stressful - Self-care 101

Self-care is an important professional priority and embedding self-care in the daily routine will go a long way in managing stress and boasting overall wellbeing.

Signs of stress:-
  • Headaches
  • changes in emotional life or behaviours
  • Increase in tension, irritability and fatigue
  • Problems sleeping
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Lose appetite or always eating
  • Not wanting to go into work, apathy.

Three golden rules to consider:-
  1. Stick to the basics
  2. Self-care needs to be something you actively plan
  3. Be aware of what you do


Simple approaches to self-care:-
  • Physical activity
  • Better sleep
  • Good nutrition
  • Take a break
  • Start off your day by talking a few minutes for yourself
  • Positive ideas for the workplace
  • Integrate fun and creativity into your day
  • Practice mindfulness or relaxation techniques
  • Know your limits

Training:-

We have made an agreement with Communities at work to link in with their Family Day Care Professional Learning.  The In Home Care Support Agency will pay for any IHC educators who wish to participate in this training.  Please contact me or Comm@work directly if you wish to participate.

You have an a choice of participating in the class based Training (Learning Circles) or On-line Learning.

Learning Circle choices are
  • 5 session exploring Child development
  • 5 session (left) on Natural worlds and Community Networks

Online Learning Modules:-
  • 4 modules on Supporting children's language
  • Mental health training with Be You
  • 4 modules on Documentation of Children's learning
  • 4 Modules on Pedagogy & practice; or
  • 4 Modules on Creative Curriculum's
