The South Cotswold Walk: A Forgotten Walk, Resurrected

feature2.jpg

The autumn/winter season is the perfect time for the Contours Customer Service Team to get away from our desks after a very busy season and go out for a walk ourselves. During this time we're often out and about researching new trails and updating route notes for our existing trails. I was lucky enough to get to walk in the Cotswolds in October.

Long-Distance Walking with your Dog

feature2.jpg

I have several friends who own a dog, all of whom enjoy walking; I guess you wouldn’t have a dog if you didn’t! I myself don’t own a dog, and perhaps that’s why the number of people out walking with their dogs seems to me to be on the increase.

Delicious Seafood along the Cornish Celtic Way

By Sally Phillips

Land’s End Round

From St Germans to St Michael’s Mount is an incredible walking adventure that stretches 125 miles: the Cornish Celtic Way. You can cover this in sections over a number of trips, as well as taking up to 12 days to walk the entire way.

You don’t have to stick to the path on your trip though — there are some amazing places that you can explore, giving you a real insight into the rich Celtic history of the area and the people that lived there. It is also a great idea to hire a bicycle for a day or two and explore some of the coastal areas in and around Newquay on the north coast and Polperro on the south coast. Just make sure that you sample some of the incredible seafood along the way.

Walking Pro-Tip:

Engage your Core

hiker

It’s important not to rely solely on your legs when walking; your whole body needs to work together in order to maintain good posture and avoid injury. Engaging your core muscles while walking will bring everything into sync, from the twist of your spine to the swing of your arms, helping to move you forward more easily.

Remember: Clocks go forward on 29th March

hiker

In 1916, during World War I, the UK implemented daylight savings time (or DST) to save energy and help the war effort. The Summer Time Act 1916 advanced the clocks in the UK by one hour from 21st May until 1st October that year. DST proved so popular that it was renamed British Summer Time (BST) and the seasonal practice has been observed ever since.

Last Month's Competition:
Guess Where?

Congratulations to Tony R. for being the lucky winner who correctly identified Tintern Abbey.

It was founded on 9 May 1131 by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow. It is situated adjacent to the village of Tintern in Monmouthshire, on the Welsh bank of the River Wye, which at this location forms the border between Monmouthshire in Wales and Gloucestershire in England.
