Friends,

Next Tuesday, March 3, 2020, is election day! I am writing to remind you to participate in this historic election in every way possible. Please vote!

In East Boston, we have residents Brian Gannon and Gabriela Coletta running for state committee and we have two slates running for the Ward Committee. Between the two slates there are 42 people to choose from. In short, you can vote for one of the slates or pick up to 21 people. We should be proud of the number of folks who are getting involved in the process. I am also running to be on the Ward Committee. While I am with Group 2's slate, I just want to thank all of the people running.

This is going to be a good positive experience. I hope many will consider getting more involved and running for office in the future!

For the presidential election, I've endorsed Elizabeth Warren. I commend Senator Warren on her leadership from fighting corruption to climate change to childcare to housing justice, and appreciate the detailed plans and vision for change. We have two wonderful progressive candidates in the race and I'm thrilled to have the issues they champion elevated to the national stage.

After the primary and general election are done, we'll still be here in Boston doing the work. In this newsletter, you can see a few recent updates, and in the coming weeks, I'm holding a council hearing on an Eversource project in East Boston and a community meeting on Suffolk Downs. Keep coming out and stay engaged!

Onwards and Upwards,

Lydia Edwards
Boston City Councilor

Mother's Healthcare in the Workplace

We’re changing perceptions and culture around motherhood in the workplace. Motherhood profoundly impacts the trajectory of your career and is still ingrained in society today. This effects ALL caretakers and needs to change. Thank you to MWPC and Womens Bar Association for hosting.‬

PLAN: Charlestown

Great to join Charlestown residents for the kickoff of PLAN: Charlestown! This plan is covering the whole neighborhood and thank you to BPDA staff for listening to residents to get this moving and to bring in BPS to the discussion. I'll be working to ensure we have an inclusive, holistic process that incorporates existing initiatives on housing and transportation (including water transportation). Oh, and thrilled to see Turn It Around Charlestown at the meeting!

PLAN: East Boston Transportation

BPDA PLAN: East Boston transportation open house was a great way for residents to recommend immediate-to long-term improvement projects for the neighborhoods transportation network. Eastie is changing and it’s important to have the neighborhood drive the conversation through out the process!

Honoring Florence (Flo) L. Johnson
On Wednesday, February 12th, at our regular City Council Hearing, I introduced a resolution honoring Florence (Flo) L. Johnson of Charlestown for her service to our nation and Gold Star Families.
Diversity & Democracy Day
