First Unitarian Church
February 28, 2020
It promises to be a Sunday like none other
First Unitarian kicks off its annual Commitment Drive this Sunday, March 1, with special music, a special message, some surprises, and even more.

The celebration continues after the worship service with an all-church fair, including a chance for some singing. Stations will be set up throughout the Parish House for circulating, listening, talking, and learning.

The Commitment Drive is one of the most important events on the First U calendar. It’s the time we pledge our financial support to everything our congregation is and all that it does.

This year, our Commitment Drive is prioritizing some specific, critical additions to the church budget. These are primarily focused on building our staff and modernizing our technology. If you are familiar with the Staffing Assessment Report that David Pyle discussed with us, these priorities will be no surprise.

At the fair, stations will be set up in the two front parlors, the auditorium, and the Atrium, where pledge materials will be located. Here are the topics and leaders:
  • In the Christensen Parlor, a session discussing how we intend to expand and support our staff led by Hillary Salmons, Michael Cappelli, and Cheryl Bartholomew

  • In the Ministers' Parlor, a session discussing plans to upgrade our technology and communications capacity led by Derek Smith, Dan Gray, Henry Allsworth, and Neil Bartholomew

  • Also in the Ministers' Parlor, a session focused on buildings and grounds requests led by Max Pounder and Merritt Meyer

In the auditorium on the second floor, there will be some special music along with four stations.  Each station features a question that requests your feedback:
  • What have we accomplished as a congregation this year? (led by Tiffany Reed)

  • What is precious to you about this congregation? (led by Roberta Groch)

  • What are your hopes for the future of this congregation? (led by David Francis)

  • What do we owe to the people who are not here yet? (led by John Simmonds)

Please circulate through the stations, listen, talk, and learn as you consider our church and our future as a congregation in this community.

Then, find your way to the pledging table in the Atrium and pick up your pledge packet.  If you are ready to pledge, we’ll give you a pen to fill out your card or supply you with access to online pledging.

Remember — please don’t leave church without pledging. Or if you are not yet ready to pledge, don’t leave without picking up your pledging materials.  Your support makes all the difference!
