This is the 37th issue of Vicious Shivers,
a (mostly) weekly newsletter for fans of my work. Okay. You people sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not back by dawn... call the president.
No newsletter last week, and I'm sorry about that.

I knew it was going to be tough to pull one together during C2E2, but I thought I might have the audacity to make it happen. I did not. I had intended to write it before heading down to the show floor Sunday morning, but late Saturday night a publisher invited me to a breakfast meeting that I couldn't pass up. Then, I thought I might send the newsletter out Monday or Tuesday, but... despite vitamin infusions and hand sanitizer and not shaking hands and washing my hands incessantly... I got hit with after-the-convention con crud that knocked me completely out of commission for six days. Even now, I can barely sit upright for more than a half hour. I might as well celebrate that minuscule progress by getting this edition out!

The convention (despite being a germ factory) was a good time. I met a lot of readers. I signed a lot of books.I spent time with some of my favorite people in the world. I talked to several editors and publishers about possible projects. I left Chicago feeling hopeful and inspired.

Being sick only kicked, like, 75% of that inspiration out of my system.

Productivity this week has been zilch-nada-nothing-oh-dear-God-how-will-I-make-ends-meet, but sometimes that's how it goes. I'm dragging myself out of the grave today and doing my level best to get back on top.

Last time, I mentioned worrying about my belt test in martial arts. Well, the test came and went, and I’m happy to say that I nabbed my next belt! I’m still a beginner, just getting started, really, but it’s still a big deal for me. I’ve taken various martial arts classes over the years, and I’ve always—always—quit out of frustration or anxiety or disenchantment. This time around, I WANTED to quit. It would have been a lot easier. But I didn’t. For once, I stuck with it. The next time the Mortal Kombat theme song springs unbidden into your mind, spare a thought for me. I like to think of myself as a Scorpion, but maybe I’m more of a Sub-Zero.

FINAL ORDER CUTOFF ALERT!

The FINAL ORDER CUTOFF for ROGUE PLANET #1 is tomorrow! IF you want to make sure you get this book, PLEASE contact your comic book retailer and let them know that you want it. Pre-orders are absolutely vital these days. With so many books coming out, customer pre-orders can help a retailer decide what books to stock. They'll order a copy for you, but they might also order a few more for the shelves!
