February Newsletter

Welcome to the February Newsletter of Berwick Smile Dental Care. The shortest month of the year is always filled with love, laughter and sharing, with the main events of Valentines Day and Shrove Tuesday. Random Act of Kindness Day also made us all smile whilst giving out random bunches of flowers to well deserving patients. Sit back, relax, grab a cuppa and have a read through this month's newsletter.

What's on?
Neighbourhood Book Club February 2020 - 'This Is Going To Hurt' by Adam Kay
After an emotional book in December and an enthalling read during January, it's time for something more lighthearted.
The National Book Awards Book of the Year.
"97-hour-weeks. Life and Death decisions. A constant tsunami of bodily fluids. And the hospital parking meter earns more than you. Welcome to the life of a junior doctor."
What's on
#RandomActsOfKindness
February 17th was National Random Acts of Kindness Day. We continued our trend of giving a bunch of tulips to random patients throughout the day. In light of recent events unfolding over the week previously in the media, it seemed a fitting way to begin that week. “In a World where you can be anything, be kind.”
#DollyPartonChallenge
We jumped on the bandwagon with the #DollyPartonChallenge. In case you are not familiar with this phenomenon; Dolly Parton was the first to post a four-panel image macro series in which people parody how they present themselves on the different social media platforms. “Get you a women that can do it all!"

#PatientSmile
Thursdays are Hygiene Day! Patients always have a smile when they come to see Paul, and Claire is no exception. “Friendly and professional. Doesn’t feel like visiting the dentist.”
Indra's Blog
"Last week marked my 16th year after graduating as a dentist. Not a special number in any way or form, but for me still significant and a day to reflect. I graduated cum laude (with distinction) after a lot of hard work within a fantastic university of dedicated teachers, even though I might not have appreciated it so much at the time as what I do now, knowing all I have seen over the years. Having made friends for life, together learning a skill that enables me to do what I am doing today with so much passion and joy; Bringing smiles and confidence to my patients'.

Illegal Tooth Whitening
"Reports of illegal teeth-whitening that could leave patients at risk of health problems including burns or lost teeth have increased, the BBC has found. General Dental Council (GDC) figures showed a 26% rise in reports last year. Teeth-whitening can only be performed legally in the UK by professionals registered with the GDC.
One beauty school claimed to have provided "thousands" of candidates with illegitimate qualifications, an undercover investigation found. Failure to comply with the requirement to be registered can result in a criminal record and an unlimited fine. Untrained beauticians using teeth-whitening kits have been known to cause tooth loss, burns and blisters." To read the full article, please follow the link bellow.

Our Dental Care Plan
Did you know that if you are on one of our adult Dental Care Plans, children under 5 can register for free? By bringing your children to your routine exams, it helps them become familiar with the dentist and encourage the future trust between dentist and patient. Our clinical team understand that coming to the dentist can be intimidating for adults as well as children, but we are here to help try our best to make sure that you and your family are looked after in a calm and relaxed atmosphere. If you are on one of our dental care plans and would like to register your family or have more questions, please give our reception team a call on 01289 305205.
