Hi <<First Name>>,

February 2020 was a great month! We released our first episode in the Transition Finance series with a guest!

No other than the most sustainable bank in the world, Triodos, joined Benedikt Bösel and myself to share why it is so difficult for a bank to finance the regenerative transition!

We took a deep dive into nutrient density with Jill Clapperton, the scientific advisor of Chef Dan Barber!

Regen ag veteran Stephanie Race shared her experience.

And we went looking for hidden risks and stranded assets in the ag system every investor should know about.

Thanks for listening, sharing and joining this movement!

The hidden risks in the food and ag system any investor should know
Interview with Mark Campanale and Matt Mcluckie of Planet Tracker

Topic: Planet Tracker is a non-profit financial think tank focused on planetary limits and financial markets e.g. fisheries, water and textiles. As natural capital declines, Planet Tracker is working with capital markets to measure the extent to which macroeconomic health, also referred to as sovereign health, depends on the sustainable management of natural capital.

My thoughts:
Through Mark's work with Carbon Tracker the concept of stranded assets in fossil fuel companies ended up on every investors agenda. Now he is focussing on shining the light on hidden risks in the other planetary limits. Absolutely fascinating and necessary work to show every investor with a public portfolio should pay attention to!

Demystifying science to help farmers to make better decisions
Interview with Stephanie Race of Crop Performance

Topic: How to get the science, done in the labs, to farmers and help them make better decisions? Stephanie shares her experience and struggles of being active in the regenerative agriculture space for over 10 years!

My thoughts: So much gets discovered in labs and never gets translated to the field. Seems like a huge (and difficult) opportunity here! As we are moving in a far more extreme weather world, growers need more tools in their toolkit.

How does a bank approach transition finance for regenerative farmers?
Interview with Jurriën Appers of Triodos Bank/ Investment Management

Topic: what the role of banks can be now and will be in the future when it comes to financing farmers who want to go beyond sustainable, towards regeneration.

My thoughts: we (myself included) usually point quite quickly to banks when farmers ask "how do I finance my regenerative transition?" But, in this interview, Jurriën explains why it is so difficult, even for one of the most sustainable banks in the world, to finance these transitions at the moment. There is simply too much uncertainty and risk involved.

A 25 years learning journey on nutrient density, healthy soils, food and people
Interview with Jill Clapperton, founder of Rhizoterra

Topic: We discuss nutrient density and the connection to soil health, how Jill ended up working with chef Dan Barber as a scientific advisor and how she developed the 'Tracer'.

My thoughts: I hope you enjoy this long interview with Jill! So much to cover and we only scratched the surface in the 1 hour we had. There is such a profound connection between Soil Health and Nutrient Density and we are only just getting to a place where we can really measure that. Very exciting times ahead!
