5:00 p.m. - BYG at Shades Valley Presbyterian
Grace to you, and peace...

I've been telling folks that I'm more eager than usual for Lent to start, simply because 2020 has been pretty rocky for a lot of folks and a clear move into a new season seems helpful.

Well, here we are.
Lent begins tomorrow with Ash Wednesday. Our service starts at 6:30 and will include scripture, hymns, a Sermon from the Steps, a choral anthem, and the imposition of ashes. We made those ashes last week from old palms and old anxiety and we'll put them on our foreheads as we remember that we are dust.

If you've been unable to worship with us for awhile, this is a great time to reconnect as we begin the journey to the cross.

We will have Handbell Choir (they're playing Sunday!) at 5, Choir after the service, and pizza for Fellowship Supper at 6.
This rain is supposed to be gone by Wednesday evening, which is good because we will be seeking combustion after dinner. Fellowship Supper is at 6 p.m., with barbecue and fixings on the menu. (Bells rehears at 5, Choir at 7.)

Our Women's Group meets this Thursday evening at the home of Julie Metheny. If you need more info, let me know.

Men's Bible Study regroups on Friday morning to finish up our romp through The Gospel According to Peanuts.

Also on Friday, Don Hagan's interview with Mike Royer will air on WVUA-23 Tuscaloosa at 5 p.m. as part of the station's Spirit of Alabama series. Don was interviewed, of course, about his upcoming Coast-2-Coast bike ride. You can find out more, and pledge,  on this portion of our website

I'll spend most of Friday (and part of Saturday) at  Main Event 2020: Practicing Hope  -- the leadership training event of the Presbytery and Sheppards and Lapsley. .It's down the road at Shades Valley Pres, and you can still make plans to join us! Click here for the schedule and registration information

Sunday will be the First Sunday in Lent and we'll hit the path running with an interesting Q &A between Jesus and a man in search of eternal life. We'll also commission Don for his trip. And then, after worship...

...it's Church Work Day in the front and side yards!
Wear work clothes to church!
Susan Hammock reminds us to bring: "reusable water bottle for hydration, work gloves, weed diggers, loppers, shovel, wheelbarrow, bucket,  rake, knee pads or cushion, and smiles!
Earl Goodwin and Joan Resigner are heading up the food effort -- if you'd like to help, I can connect you!

Don't forget:
◦There's still time to get in  -- Please click here to included in the new EPC Directory.
◦Get your photos, news, and announcements in to Rick Frennea for the upcoming March Epistle.

If you have decided on something to give up, or a practice to take up, for Lent, let me know! Personally, I'm considering a fast from Facebook. I'd love to hear what others are thinking.

Peace be with you,
Joe
