Sometimes you don't know what you need until you stumble into it.

Hey Friend—

"To be honest, I had no idea what it would be like, but I'm so glad I joined." — That's what one of the women told me about joining The Wise Women's Council.

I know that it seems like a leap of faith. That there are a million reasons why it won't work, and a million courses and programs out there. Why is this one any different?

Will it actually work?

It's hard to know everything in advance.

So today I want to share with you what real women have told me about joining our Wise Women's Council.

These are the women that took a leap, to join our community, to try it and see what happened. These women knew that they needed a place to unpack the madness that was parenting and working—and they needed to surround themselves with support and encouragement for all the hard things they were (and still are) trying to do.

Here's what they've said about the program.

Michelle said she didn't realize how much she was editing herself across different situations. "Sometimes all I want is just ONE place to talk about all the things—business, babies, being a woman, your career—and not have to constantly code-switch between groups," she said. "The Wise Women’s Council is that place for me." She's back for her third round in the group.

— MICHELLE FLORENDO, EXECUTIVE COACH

Sharon said: "There was not a time we got together that I wasn’t openly weeping about something, because I had so much to process and I didn’t realize it. The Wise Women’s Council gave me space to process motherhood and everything that comes with it."

— SHARON STOLT, SENIOR DIRECTOR, MODEL N

Brea said: "People are not talking about the intersection of work and parenting enough. I wanted to be a part of that discussion in whatever form it takes. That’s why I joined The Wise Women’s Council—and I'm joining again this year."

— BREA STARMER, FOUNDER, LIONS + TIGERS

Erin said: "I was lying awake at night thinking, “Could I do this? Could I quit my job?” It was a job I really loved, but I realized that if I ever wanted to have a family, live the life I wanted, I was going to have to make something new and build it myself."

— ERIN SIMPSON, CO-FOUNDER, BRICK LANE PR

Amy said: "I found the monthly rhythms and the check-in calls with her to be wildly helpful. Even more so, I found her theme of asking questions to upend all of my thinking about how to make progress on problems. Instead of saying, I need an action plan! Sarah would ask, why do you feel this way? Why do you think you need that? Throughout that process, you could start to get a better grip and handle on what was actually going on in your own mind."

— AMY FRANCOIS, SENIOR MANAGER + STRATEGIST

A reminder that the last day to apply to our group coaching and community program is tomorrow, February 20th, 2020. If you want to be a part of The Wise Women's Council this year, apply by midnight, February 20th, 2020.

Looking forward to meeting you—and maybe even spending the next nine months together.

What does it take to nurture and grow community? In this episode of the podcast, I share what I’ve learned about building communities, growing them, and designing online gathering places in a deliberate way. Not everything is as easy as it appears—getting the nuances of timing, logistics, and people right can take a lot of iterations before it comes together. Here’s what I’ve learned about facilitation, group programs, and creating a deliberate space and practices that allow people to come together in community.

Why We All Need A Space To Speak Honestly—About All Of It

I was chatting on Twitter with a VC at First Round and he had a lot of great points that made me rethink how I explain the value proposition of my projects and products. Unpacking it all here in a blog post in case it's useful to you to see my thought process. When we describe products, don't just describe what it is—talk about what it's for, and why.
