MARCH GALLERY HOP BOASTS 7 NEW EXHIBITIONS IN THE SHORT NORTH ARTS DISTRICT
New works touch on empowerment, environmental issues, and humanity in Columbus
COLUMBUS, OH (February 26, 2020) -- On Saturday, March 4, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., celebrate art in the Short North Arts District at Gallery Hop! In addition to street performers, artisan vendors, and special events, this month’s Gallery Hop will feature new exhibitions and works at Brandt-Roberts Galleries, Lindsay Gallery, Marcia Evans Gallery, (Not) Sheep Gallery, Sarah Gormley Gallery, Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio and Sharon Weiss Gallery, as well as a live portrait painting at Found by Sharon Weiss Gallery.
Gallery Hoppers can explore artwork in all forms that depict and prompt discussion on the power of myth and self-empowerment, as in “Only Bangers” by Adam Hernandez at Lindsay Gallery; environmental issues and reconnection with nature, as in “Altered Perceptions” by Char Norman and Catherine Bell Smith at (Not) Sheep Gallery; and iconic Columbus scenes and buildings that show the humanity within us as expressed by the space around us, as in Fiona Miller’s work at Sarah Gormley Gallery. Prologue Bookshop also calls attention to Columbus with a book signing by the editor and one of the authors of “Columbus Noir,” a brand-new collection of stories from local authors about the darker, grittier side of Columbus, a city rapidly growing into itself as a metropolis.

24 Lincoln St. Art Studios
24 Lincoln St. Art Studios, located on the second floor of Found by Sharon Weiss Gallery, welcomes Gallery Hoppers to come into its work spaces from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. to talk about painting, processes, and techniques with Columbus artists Amy Adams, Lisa Parks Godfrey and Karen LaValley.

Visit Found By Sharon Weiss Gallery, located 24 Lincoln St., during the March Gallery Hop to view a live portrait painting by award-winning Columbus artist Ron Mlicki, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Brandt-Roberts Galleries
“And all the land was swathed with color” is a showcase of recent paintings by acclaimed Ohio artist Mark Gingerich. Known for his remarkable execution of contemporary impressionism, Gingerich continues to expand upon the long tradition of translating landscape into marks of light and color. It is these lyrical landscapes, ranging from snow covered small town streets to Midwestern pastoral scenes to alluring European locales, which provide the artist with an abundance of inspiration. “And all the land was swathed with color” will be on view through March 29.
Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art
Kick off Gallery Hop at the Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art (PCCMA) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with music, drinks, special experiences, and the opportunity to view the Driving Forces exhibition. PCCMA Gallery Hop admission is $5 for nonmembers, and free for members.
Hammond Harkins Galleries
Hammond Harkins Galleries will exhibit a diverse collection of works by various gallery artists, including Laura Alexander, Elizabeth Gerdeman, Dennison Griffith, Paul Hamilton, Andrew Hendrixson, Janice Lessman-Moss, Stephanie Lüning, Andrea Myers, Aminah Robinson, Karen Snouffer, Carol Stewart, Melissa Vogley Woods and Erin Wozniak. This show will be on display through March 13.
Lindsay Gallery
“Only Bangers” by Adam Hernandez features new work about the power of myth, speaking to the relationship with mythology and the importance of stories in the world today. The stories behind these paintings speak to the things we all have in common. They speak to the same fears and anxieties we all must face and overcome. The paintings are about empowerment, and the raw surfaces they are painted on are meant to act as mirrors, to reflect and radiate the boldness and fierceness that the characters captured on them exude. When we better ourselves, we better our world. When we become stronger, the world becomes stronger. Be encouraged. Be the best you. Only Bangers.
Marcia Evans Gallery
Marcia Evans Gallery will feature "New Abstracts" by Pittsburgh native Scott Hunter. Hunter studied painting and art history at Boston University, and his related experiences include theatrical set design, illustration, commissioned portraits and wall murals. His collection list includes the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, where he was commissioned to do a 96"x84" painting titled "Bluffs," and his awards include "The Associated Artists 102nd Annual Exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Art": AAP Purchase Award. “New Abstracts” will be on view through March 30.
(Not) Sheep Gallery
“Altered Perceptions” features new work by Char Norman and Catherine Bell Smith. The show deals with environmental issues, taking a hopeful approach to reconnecting with nature and stopping the destruction of our environment. These works will be on display through March 20.
Sarah Gormley Gallery
March at Sarah Gormley Gallery showcases the work of Fiona Miller, an architectural illustrator and artist from the UK who lived in Columbus for several years and is currently based in San Francisco. Her solo show features iconic Columbus scenes and buildings and share a common thread: the humanity within us, expressed through the space around us. This show will be on display through March 29.
Sean Christopher Gallery Ohio
Sean Christopher Gallery presents “Concentration 12”, their 18th Anniversary Celebration featuring an Annual Fort Hayes Arts and Academic High School Group AP Art Exhibition; curated by Teresa Weidenbusch. Select Advanced Placement sophomore, junior and senior high school art students are engaged in creating individual series of works throughout the school year, each concentrating on one specific chosen focus. This structured exercise helps students to have a cohesive body of work and a portfolio for those going on to choose art as a major or minor at the college level. Many students who have created artworks exhibited in this annual show at Sean Christopher Gallery over the years have gone on to receive scholarships to attend schools such as the Columbus College of Art & Design, Maryland Institute College of Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This show will be on display through March 28.
Sharon Weiss Gallery
Sharon Weiss Gallery will feature its March Salon Exhibition. The show will be on display through March 31.
Sherrie Gallerie
Sherrie Gallerie will feature works by Israeli artist Zemer Peled, who creates forcible, nature-inspired sculptures and installations constructed using thousands of porcelain shards, a technique that yields a texture both delicate and severe. The act of making for Peled is a feat of endurance, improvisation and adaptation with the aim to embody a fleeting but fundamental feeling of mystery. The construction of her sculpture parallels negotiations any outsider makes in encountering a new world as they delicately construct a self that is both adaptable and resilient. Her work examines the beauty and brutality of the natural world. This exhibit will be on display through March 8.
Studios on High Gallery
“A New Beginning” watercolorist Antonio Gonzalez Garcia relocated to the U.S. from Spain in 2018. This exhibition honors that new start – that time when you’re at zero, where new creativity can birth to life feelings and where an artist’s novel explorations come forth from the unknown. This exhibition is an expression of the artist’s gratitude, for being welcomed into the gallery’s creative community and for the opportunity to explore his craft freely. “A New Beginning” will be on display through April 2.

To celebrate International Women's Month, Global Gifts is hosting Ellery for a pop-up shop in the store from 1 p.m. to 3pm. With a commitment to fair trade, Ellery is an online shop offering handmade goods by women artisans around the world. Stop by to shop Ellery, and from Global Gifts' selection of handmade goods from over 40 different countries, including new arrivals of spring clothing, and enjoy a sample of fair trade coffee and a treat.
Greater Columbus Convention Center
Visit the largest contemporary collection of central Ohio art within the Greater Columbus Convention Center, and get a selfie with the interactive sculpture, “As We Are,” by Matthew Mohr.
Prologue Bookshop
Visit Prologue Bookshop for the “Columbus Noir” signing with one of the authors, Craig McDonald, and editor Andrew Welsh-Huggins from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. “Columbus Noir” is a brand-new collection of stories from local authors, all about the darker, grittier side of Columbus, a city rapidly growing into itself as a metropolis. Andrew Welsh-Huggins and Craig McDonald both contributed stories to this collection.
The Table
Sculptures by Richard Garriott Stejskal and paintings by Nathaniel Galka are displayed and for sale at The Table restaurant. This exhibition is presented by (Not) Sheep Gallery, and will be on display through March 31.
About Gallery Hop
On the first Saturday of every month, thousands of visitors converge on High Street in the Short North Arts District for Gallery Hop to celebrate art. Throughout the evening, Gallery Hoppers can enjoy new gallery exhibitions, street performers and artisan vendors, special events, food and drinks throughout the District. With dozens of galleries and non-traditional exhibit spaces, it’s Columbus’ favorite night of the month to celebrate art. Though many shops and galleries are open earlier, Gallery Hop officially starts at 4p.m. and runs to 10p.m., with restaurants and bars staying open considerably later.
