MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR PASTOR

Wednesday night was the fifth annual GBC dinner. This now “traditional” event is one of my favourites. I love the diversity of those who attend with plenty of people from all three of our congregations represented. I love the hum of conversation as people make new acquaintances. I love being “on the door” as part of the official welcome (something I don’t get to do too often).
I love the opportunity that I had to share some of what is on my heart with those who are gathered and, through the work of Martin Johnson, those who weren’t via video which you can access here.

Last night I shared some of my convictions about leadership as enabling others so that the group can achieve its goals and the importance of both having clarity about what those goals are and committing to them. I’d encourage you, if you weren’t able to be there, to have a look at this brief message as it’s a pretty important one for us as we really lean into 2020.

And speaking of clarity about our goals, we continue our series introducing our values this Sunday with Jodene helping us think about what it means for us, as a follower of Jesus here at GBC, to be BIG-HEARTED; generous in every way.

I hope to see you there.

Marc Rader

Announcements and Upcoming Events

Cambodia Update
Gymea Baptist Church (GBC) has been working through a process of developing our strategic priorities, direction and values. Through this we have come to the decision that we will be concluding our short-term trips to Cambodia and drawing our activities related to that space to a close, as announced at services Sunday 16 Feb. There are a variety of considerations that have brought us to this decision and you can read further detail here. GBC reps (Richard Dwyer, Helen Dwyer and John Cox) are traveling to Cambodia late Feb/March 2020 to thank and celebrate our past connections. We will be having a celebration moment for Cambodia with our wider GBC community at all services on Sunday 29th March 2020. On this day, we will also be sharing our new unfolding direction for GBC Mission.
Pathways - Register Now!
Pathways is back for the new year!

Pathways is a four-week course which will be held at 10:30am (one hour) over four consecutive Sundays (8 March - 29 March) to help those who are new to GBC find their place in God's mission here.

Pathways explores: Who we are; Where we believe God is leading us; What we are doing to get there; and How you can get involved. It's a space for you to ask questions, meet others who are new to our community of faith, and begin to form some lasting friendships. Pathways will take place during our 10:30am Service so if you're coming in the morning with young children, they'll have the opportunity to enjoy our Kidzone program while you attend.

To register for the next Pathways four-week course (8/3, 15/3, 22/3, 29/3) go to GBC Links or register via email.

Bush Fire Relief – Pamper packs

We have had a request from the Baptist Association Bushfire Relief and Recovery campaign for donations of items to go into pampering packs for women who have been affected by the fires in the Bateman’s Bay area. The Bateman’s Bay Baptist Church is arranging a pamper time for these women in late March.

We are looking for donations of NEW items that would be suitable for us to put together pampers packs for 50 ladies.

Examples of items required:

  • Hand cream, nail polish and remover, body cream, face cream, emery boards or manicure kits, face wash, lip balm, hair treatments, face masks, mascara, bronzer … and so on!

This is a project of the GBC ladies group “Embrace” for all of the GBC community to be a part of. There will be a clearly labelled basket in the foyer where you can place your donations from this Sunday onwards.

The last day for donations will be 15th March. We will be packing the pamper packs on Tuesday 17th March at 10am and would love some helpers.

If you have any questions contact Janine 0405 629 790 or Sheena 0419 613 122

Thank you for helping us to love on these ladies who have had a really tough summer!
