Queensland Youth Music Awards (QYMA) is one of the state's longest running school music competitions which celebrates the participation of more than 4,000 young people in the music making process.
In 2020, QYMA celebrates 53 years of uniting school ensembles and choirs from across south east Queensland.
Origins of Queensland Youth Music Awards (QYMA) stem back to 1966 - 1967 when the event began, run by a small committee supported by Ashgrove and The Gap Methodist Churches.
The management of the event extended to Uniting Church Parishes in 1977, before changing hands and becoming The Pine Rivers Music Contest for Primary and Secondary Schools in 1994.
QYMA is now managed by Voices of Birralee, a leading Australian, Brisbane-based non-profit child and youth choral organisation.
Now one of the most anticipated music events of the school year, QYMA caters for around 200 ensembles and choirs from different school across South East Queensland, whilst maintaining its original ethos of giving young people the opportunity to make music in a supportive environment.
Through the efforts and dedication of the current executive committee, advisors, supporters and volunteer teams, QYMA has successfully catered for thousands of young choristers and instrumentalists and has awarded more than $250,000 in prize money during its history.
QYMA is always delighted to showcase and encourage our next generation of musicians. We welcome your school's involvement in 2020.
