  • What was Queen Victoria's favourite fruit?
  • Which cuisines are our Food Heroes cooking up?
  • Who is in the spotlight for their huge contribution to the park?
All this and more below.
Unusual and exotic fruits
Tony, our master of plants, is not content with our current currants. He is planning to grow a tropical fruit salad (in a hedge) next to the wildlife garden. He hasn't gone bananas. Our summers are getting warmer which means we can experiment with more unusual fruits like Honeyberry (pictured) and Queen Victoria's favourite, Chilean Guava.
We're potty about our new table
What's so special about our new potting table? One, it's made from waste materials. Brixton Remakery saved them from landfill. Two, Father Nature turned the unwanted materials into a table that will keep on giving back to the community. The plants we pot add colour to the park and help feed local people.

Bee-friendly park
Bees pollinate much of the food we love – including tomatoes, avocados and coriander. But bees are in trouble. In the UK we've already lost around 13 species. We want the buzz back, so we're busy breeding perennials like the Jerusalem Sage. Bees love its golden flowers that come out in late summer.
Want to be a Food Hero?
We’re on a mission to celebrate the rich cultural roots within our community. Our Food Heroes have already plated up Ecuadorian, Turkish and Italian food. In the coming weeks we’ll be sampling Nigerian, Caribbean, Indian and Nepali dishes. If you’d like to be one of our cooks, come along to any of our Sunday sessions first.
A big thank you to...
Mina Borova for her charity work. Despite having a physical disability, Mina's been really active in helping the community. Last year she ran a stall at Myatt's market to raise money for people living on the streets. And now she's cooking and delivering meals to the homeless every Thursday with the help of volunteers. What a woman!
Let's talk park
Park manager Eliza will be at the depot to answers your questions about the park on Fridays (10am-noon). Also, our staff will be at the roundhouse (same time) on the last Friday of the month (February 28). Talk to us about anything to do with the park. Everyone is welcome.
Little ones love nature
We're not just growing plants, we're growing the next generation of citizens. Kids have a natural affinity for nature, which is why they love to learn and play in the park. Bring your under 5s and under 2s along to our Stay and Play sessions at The Mulberry Centre. Free for adults to attend with their little ones. More info about Stay and Play sessions.
