T.J. OSHIE OF THE WASHINGTON CAPITALS HOSTS BROOMBALL FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT THE ALZHEIMER’S DRUG DISCOVERY FOUNDATION

T.J. Oshie, in partnership with WARROAD, the Super Service Challenge, and NT Concepts, hosted a broomball tournament on Wednesday, February 5th at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, which raised over $40,000 for the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF). Oshie became involved with the ADDF as a result of his father’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, and was honored last year at the ADDF Great Ladies Luncheon in Washington, D.C. Read more.

Grants Announcements
The Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation announced ten new investments, totaling $13.25 million, to help advance research programs focused on novel therapeutic targets and innovative avenues for the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Read more.

ADDF Statement on DIAN-TU Trials
In response to the recently released results of the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network-Trials Unit (DIAN-TU), Dr. Howard Fillit expressed his disappointment that patients in the study did not see a benefit and reiterated the ADDF’s support for a broader approach that moves past targeting beta-amyloid. The Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation recently launched Cognitive Vitality Reports, a new resource on CognitiveVitality.org that currently contains over 200 reports for researchers and clinicians interested in the development of drugs for Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

ADDF IN THE NEWS

  • T.J. Oshie’s broomball fundraiser to benefit the ADDF was picked up by news outlets such as Fox 5 WTTG and ABC 7 WJLA, as well as being mentioned in prominent social media accounts, including a retweet from the Washington Capitals.
  • Dr. Howard Fillit accepted an honorary degree from the University of Exeter in December. In his speech, he said, “Today the ADDF is closer than ever to finding effective treatments for this disease and I have had the privilege of being part of that worldwide effort.” Watch the full speech here.
