Welcome to February's Volunteer Now! We have some great new roles to tease your tastebuds and as usual for each role we give you a snippet of info to capture your interest - then for full details, click the image and you'll be taken through to the full role description where you can 'fill in an application'.

This doesn't commit you to volunteering, think of it like an expression of interest and a way of connecting with organisations you want to find out about. Some roles will take you to their Facebook page or website where you can sign up directly - or just call us if you need help! 

If you can't find what you are looking for here, you can check out our regional online database and The Wanaka App  and The Central App where we add new roles as they crop up in their community/jobs section. We also have a new Facebook Group - Volunteering Central Connections which we update as new roles pop up.

Otago Community Hospice providing the highest quality specialist palliative care, at no cost to the patient and family, to the communities of Otago. Their shop in Cromwell generates funds to support this service and  is brimming with clothes and housewares donated from our generous community. Imagine volunteering there and helping support this amazing service. Polite, friendly and reliable volunteers are being sought to help out in this fabulous shop.



Wanaka Primary School has joined the Garden to Table programme. This is a unique and inspiring programme teaching our children how to grow and harvest produce grown in the school garden, which will then be prepared and shared in the school kitchen. Volunteers are sought to support the children grow the produce over lunchtimes - 1230 - 1300.
Relay for Life is coming to Cromwell and seeking volunteers to help deliver this iconic event taking place March 21st - 22nd. Roles include catering, entertainment, promotions, volunteer coordination, logistics and a range of roles on the day! Join this inspiring event that see's teams walking and running for 24 hours to raise money for those affected by cancer. 


Wanaka Trail Ride offers a unique and stunning, all-abilities trail bike ride, whilst raising funds for Wanaka Primary School and Montessori Children’s House Wanaka. 100% volunteer driven this is a fantastic event and volunteers are sought to help in a range of roles including catering, registration, marshalling and parking. March 28th. Sign up on their website today!

Cromwell Community House (formally Cromwell Resource Centre) are seeking reliable and personable volunteers to join their team of drivers who enable people otherwise unable to get to appointments, the library and shops. Join this friendly, welcoming team in a rewarding and community focused role.
The Sharing Shed in Hawea Flat is a shed where people donate there good quality donations and produce for others to take! Set up and run by a generous local volunteer - support is needed to help sort, fold, hang and tidy the shed making it an attractive place for people to swap and recycle their unwanted treasures.
Cat Rescue Wanaka are dedicated to caring for stray and abandoned cats in the Wanaka and Upper Clutha district. Volunteer fosterers are needed to care for and prepare cats for adoption to a permanent home. Caring animal lovers very welcome with 6 months commitment ideally and your landlords permission if you are in a rental property.  
We are always on the look our for treasurers to help local non profit organisations. If you have a head for figures, can spare a couple of hours a month and would like to help, we'd love to hear from you. If you're interested - but need some training we'd still love to hear from you as can help you up-skill!


 Forest and Bird are seeking fit and field-capable volunteers, with some tramping experience to help maintain its trapping network based in the Upper Clutha Wanaka/Hawea areas. Hours are flexible and weather-dependant: one or two days a month.  Practical skills with tools would be handy.
Queenstown and Wanaka Community Patrol Volunteers are the eyes and ears of the local police and keep the residents, businesses and world wide visitors to the area safer. They have a strong, diverse and varied team and are always on the look out for more patrollers so they can be even more effective in assisting the police. If you can spare a minimum of four hours a month they would love to hear from you. The CAB is a champion of people’s rights, working to solve the underlying causes of the problems they face. We think it is important that everyone in New Zealand can participate in their community and access the services they need.. Queenstown CAB is staffed by volunteers who welcome and support people at the centrally located office, as well as people making enquiries on the phone. More volunteers are currently being sought - great training and a friendly and welcoming team awaits!
 
Help keep Queenstown clean. Every piece of plastic and rubbish you pick up, is one less piece that can end up wrapped around or ingested by wildlife. Take some time out of your day to come and join us! Lets give this beautiful Queenstown Beach some Love!

GirlGuiding NZ is all about preparing girls for making the most of life ahead. Our aim is to help girls develop skills, knowledge, values and a sense of adventure through an experiential learning ‘hands on’ programme that’s designed to be relevant to the interests of today’s girls. We provide a fun, safe environment where girls are encouraged to be themselves, where they can discover their potential, develop an awareness of others and where their ambition is nurtured. Volunteers plan and run girl focused, balanced and exciting programmes that encompasses the values of Girl Guiding NZ and are needed across the QLDC region and Cromwell.
Warbirds over Wanaka is happening on the 10th and 11th April and are seeking volunteers who have a love of planes, meeting new people, giving back to the community, being part of an amazing team and having lots of fun. The Buddy Programme operates across our region and contributes to the emotional and social well-being of children by matching them with carefully selected and trained adult volunteers in a well-supported mentoring relationship. If you can share an hour or two a week and would enjoy spending time in a positive way with a child then we'd love to hear from you! 
 
Upper Clutha Lakes Trust are opening the Alpine Lakes Research and Education Centre (ALREC) to offer a laboratory and environmental hub to facilitate research, action, ideas and conversation. They are looking for a passionate volunteer that’s keen to get stuck in with some admin and outreach work. If you care about the health of our waterways, and have a few hours each week to give to this awesome project we’d love to hear from you.
Wanaka and Queenstown parkun organise free, weekly, 5km timed every Saturday morning at 8am. followed by a post-event coffee and natter. As parkrun relies entirely on volunteers to make it happen, we require 3-4 volunteers each Saturday to assist on run day and work with a pool of volunteers to help out as often or as infrequently as they can. TriWanaka is a local community club that provides a welcoming platform for athletes young and old to come together and enjoy triathlon. They are seeking volunteer support for various swim/run events in Wanaka over the summer. Roles include marshals, kayakers, registration, photographers and set up and pack down crew.
Alexandra Toy Library are seeking new committee members to assist with the administration and planning of the library.  This includes stock purchase and management, building maintenance and repairs, fundraising and planning.  Many of the tasks can be done at a time to suit and from home. We would love to hear from those who can bring new ideas and initiatives to our friendly group.
Wanaka Rowing Club are seeking coaches to help develop basic technical skills for new rowers - both juniors and adults. They are also looking for an experienced rowers/ coaches to help develop their masters and adult rowers. Excellent training and development opportunities and satisfaction from seeing your crew develop.
Te Kākano Aotearoa in Wanaka and Wakatipu Reforestation Trust in the Wakatipu run a community-based native plant nursery. Volunteers hail from all around the world and span all ages. Not only do they lend us a helping hand each year but they leave a permanent personal mark on the local landscape for generations to come. Help us re-build native habitats one plant at a time, get your hands dirty, share stories and enjoy being out in the fresh air. Weekly sessions are available to get involved in. Central Otago District Arts Trust are seeking a volunteer to assist with their finances and accounts. The role can be carried out at a time to suit the volunteer who should have a basic understanding of simple accounting. Knowledge of XERO would be beneficial but not essential as training can be provided so is a great opportunity to develop skills if you have a head for maths, but need up-skilling on the tech side.
Wanaka Well and Mums4Mums in Alexandra and Cromwell (starting soon!) are  seeking women who are warm, welcoming and supportive to make cups of tea and keep an eye on the children whilst peer supporters spend time talking and listening with mums who are attending groups and gaining advice on their parenting journey.
Central Cinema in Alexandra is a fabulous community cinema and are seeking an administrator to maintain their web based software system that coordinates schedules, ticketing, monthly ticket reports, group bookings or special screenings. Training and support is provided for this unique and rewarding role at this brilliant community hub. Contact us for full details!
Alexandra Community Advice Network provide a free, confidential referral information and advice service which is delivered by a team of dedicated volunteers. They are on the look out for new people to join their team - flexible times to suit, full training provided and friendships to be made.
We have a range of residential homes across our region that provides housing in a caring, friendly setting and caters for residents of varying needs, some including a dedicated dementia wing. Volunteers are welcome to assist with bus outings, dance/exercise programs, creative/art based program, manicures, bingo, and providing 1:1 support and meaningful conversation to their residents. The Life Education Trust's vision is to ensure every child in Heartland Otago/Southland has access to a Life Education mobile classroom, every year. The trust help give the young people, through positive health based education, the knowledge and skills to raise their awareness and to live a fulfilling and healthy life. Volunteers with a passion to provide a safe place for youth to belong and develop are being sought to join the board of trustees for the Alexandra and District Youth Trust. Volunteers should have a basic understanding of the role of governance and good communication skills and of course and interest and empathy with the young people in Alexandra.
Cromwell Youth Trust’s promise is to provide a safe and supportive environment where young people have the opportunities to express themselves openly, without judgement; to be treated as equals, without segregation; to have the opportunity to participate, without concern of financial pressure; to be heard, without being silenced and to be guided by trusted and dedicated youth workers. They are seeking volunteers to assist in growing the youth trust to be the best it can be.
Altrusa Queenstown is a community organisation which aims to make a difference in our community; broaden  knowledge through speakers, workshops and conferences; develop leadership skills in a supportive environment; develop business and personal networks and most importantly have fun. Altrusa Queenstown fundraises and directly works with the community to help make a difference. They are seeking new volunteers to support their work and join the core team who drive the organisation.
Wakatipu Senior Citizens bring together men and women who are over 60 years of age and seek companionship. We provide company and entertainment in the form of meetings and outings, have activities such as tai chi, indoor bowls and card making as well as the opportunity to learn basic computer skills. Every Friday we offer a hot lunch to members and we are seeking volunteers to assist in the kitchen and serving the meals!
The Wakatipu Toy Library is a non-profit organisation which provides a unique and wonderful service to local families, enabling them an affordable means to provide their children with a variety of quality toys, games, puzzles and outdoor items. We aim to bring good quality, well designed and, in some cases, remedial toys and equipment within the reach of children to help them reach their full potential; and to extend the basic physical, mental, sensory and perceptual skills of children. They are looking for support to help them more to new premises which opens in March and to keep the organisation thriving in the years ahead.
