ENCOUNTER THE BIBLE AT SARUM COLLEGE

19 The Close, Salisbury SP1 2EE  |  +44 (0)1722 424800  |  courses@sarum.ac.uk
Dear friend,

As you have participated in at least one of our Centre for Encountering the Bible day courses or on our TQQ/Exploring Theology course, we’d like to let you about some upcoming courses on related subjects.

In feedback received from previous courses, there has been repeated requests for a course on The Book of Revelation and apocalyptic literature, resources on dealing with violence and conflict in the Bible, and deeper reading of particular texts.  As a result, we have planned several courses to fit that bill!   Have a browse below and do please join us - places are limited, so book now to avoid disappointment!

Best wishes,

Sarum College

Making Sense of Revelation and Apocalyptic Literature

Monday 16 March 2020

This course explores the range of apocalyptic texts produced by early Jews and Christians

It provides a foundation in reading, analysing, and comparing apocalyptic literature in its cultural and political contexts, and provides space for thinking about what has brought about a resurgence of the genre in contemporary media.

Tell it Slant: Reading the Gospels from the Edges

12 - 14 June 2020

Padraig O'Tuama (below) will lead this day on approaching Gospel texts through slant angles, allowing the queer, marginal and silenced voices to speak, to hold their own, and to engage in a theological project of truth-telling.

We urge those interested to book early as this is expected to be a very popular course. For pricing, booking information and terms and conditions, see here.

Confronting Violence in the New Testament

Introduction to Biblical Greek

10 - 15 August 2020

If you have ever wondered what lies behind the text of an English Bible, why Bible text is translated in different ways, or wanted a better understanding of Greek terms, this course is for you. No prior Greek or Latin knowledge needed.

With Jon Riding.

For pricing, booking information and terms and conditions, see here.

Introduction to Biblical Hebrew

30 August - 4 September 2020

Reading the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible in the language in which it was written is to open a window into a different world and times. This course introduces the student to Biblical Hebrew and lays the groundwork for further study. It is both fun and intensive, and will bring the student through the early stages of learning a language which is both radically different and beautifully rich in it's theology and world view.
