1. This morning Friday February 21st at 10.30am in St Michael and All Angels Church it’s the next Bach to Baby family concert: The Four Seasons, flute and piano. Doors open at 10am. Concerts last an hour. Adults £11, children free. Details.

2. Tonight Friday 21st from 7pm at Watermans Arts Centre, it’s Watermans with Words: Scientific Pioneers. At 7pm, medical historian Dr Lindsey Fitzharris will talk about her book The Butchering Art and at 8.30pm it’s Tony Warner of Black History Walks with Black Scientists and Inventors. £10 per talk. 25% off when both talks booked together. 3. Tonight, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd at 7.30pm at the Chiswick Playhouse above the Tabard, a very few tickets remain for the hit thriller Tryst, which has had 4 and 5-star reviews. Next week is its final week: to meet demand they have added a Saturday matinee at 4pm on February 29th

4. Tomorrow Saturday February 22nd and Sunday 23rd, it’s the 5th London Bookshop Crawl (like a pub crawl but with books), which includes Bookcase and Foster Books in Chiswick High Road and The Pitshanger Bookshop in Ealing. All welcome.

5. On Sunday February 23rd at 10am at St Michael & All Angels, it’s our Pontifical Choral Mass and Confirmation service. Celebrant and preacher: Rt Revd Michael Marshall, Hon Asst Bishop in the Diocese of London. All welcome. See 
Confirmation at St Michael’s. Plus Creche (0-3 years), Children’s Church (4-10), Youth Church (9.30am, Michael Room).
            At 6.30pm there is Evensong. Preacher: Father Thomas Couper, curate. All welcome. 
            As you come in, why not tap your card on our Contactless Giving point inside the church doors? We will claim the Gift Aid. 
             In this cold weather, The Upper Room needs more winter clothing. Please donate men’s gloves, hats, scarves, coats and new socks and underwear in the box at the back of St Michael & All Angels. Please also donate food to the Ealing Food Bank – the February shopping list is displayed at the back of the church.
 
6. On Monday February 24th from 3pm to 5pm it’s the next Café Conversation session at Avanti, Bedford Corner, W4 1LD, organised by Louise Kaye, to encourage lonely or isolated people to have a cup of tea or coffee and chat to others in a similar situation. All welcome.
            On Wednesday February 26th from 2pm-4pm it’s the next Café Conversation at Cafe Grove, 7 Grove Park Road, W4 3RS.
 
7. On Tuesday February 25th from 10am to 12 noon at St Mary’s Convent and Nursing Home in Burlington Lane, there’s a Shrove Tuesday Sale. New and vintage items with refreshments: coffee, bacon butties and noodles. All welcome. 

 
8. On Tuesday 25th at 7.30pm at Chiswick Pier Trust, Corney Reach Way W4 2UG, there’s a lecture by Cahal Dallat: A Whole Day’s Dreaming: Yeats, the Thames, and Poetry,  with Yeats readings by Anne-Marie Fyfe. Doors open 7pm. £5 non-members, free for members.

9. Wednesday February 26th is Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. At 12.30pm in St Michael & All Angels Church, there is Mass & Imposition of Ashes. At 5pm it’s the Children’s Service and Ashing. At 8pm it’s a Solemn Mass and Imposition of Ashes. See Lent at St Michael & All Angels

 
10. On Thursday February 27th, meeting at 8am at Turnham Green tube station, ChATR (Chiswick Against the Third Runway) is organising a rally outside the Royal Courts of Justice, with a photocall at 9am. Judgement in the Heathrow legal challenge led by the local councils, Greenpeace, the Mayor of London and Friends of the Earth will be handed down that morning. 
            Chiswick would be one of the areas most affected by Heathrow's expansion with major disturbance, noise and pollution. The rally has the support of the Bedford Park Society. Read more

 
11. Also on Thursday February 27th from 10am to 3pm in the Conservatory at Chiswick House & Gardens, the 10th Chiswick House Camellia Festival is opening, free of charge – it’s earlier than planned because of the mild winter. It runs till March 22nd, and at 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays there are free ‘camellia tours’. There are also competitions. Full details

12. Also on Thursday 27th (and every Thursday) between 10 and 12 am, St Michael’s Church, Elmwood Road W4, is now open as a Drop In Support Centre, offering  digital support, help with online applications, form filling and correspondence, as well as general support for those who are lonely or want to share a problem. Visitors welcome to call in for a coffee and supportive chat, whether or not they have a problem.
 
13. Also on Thursday 27th from 10.15 to 11am at The Friendship Club, Oxford Road, W4 4DN it’s the second week of Age Concern’s Yoga class. £7 per class. Ring 020 8742 7007 to book.
            And on Thursday 27th from 1pm to 2pm, at the Friendship Club, students from Chiswick School would like elderly residents to share their recollections of the past for a creative project based on the Chiswick area. Their stories will be used as the basis for a theatrical production performed by the students in the early summer. Read more at The Chiswick Calendar.


14. Also on Thursday 27th from 8-9pm at St Peter’s, Fr Fabrizio Pesce will begin a six-week Mindfulness In Depth course. Details and booking and other courses at St Peter’s Centre for Mindfulness and Spirituality. 
 
15. Also on Thursday 27th at 8pm in St Michael & All Angels Church, it’s the second Upper Room Winter Lecture. Former BBC presenter John Humphrys will be interviewed by the BBC's Julian Marshall. Free admission but ticket needed via Eventbrite.

16. Voting closes next week in the Abundance London project to choose the next ‘Fourth Plinth for W4’ artwork by Turnham Green tube station, where Sir Peter Blake’s Chiswick Empire collage is currently displayed.

17. On Saturday February 29th at 8am at Bray Lake, Mark Critchlow will be leading an icebreaker’ swim in aid of Crisis, the homeless charity. He invites you to join him in the water – or simply donate via his JustGiving page, where you can read more

 
18. Also on Saturday 29th from 3pm to 5pm at St Peter’s Church Hall, Southfield Road, the Chiswick-based charity Move Into Wellbeing is holding an open day at its therapeutic dance & movement class. Free taster class, funded by a National Lottery Community Fund grant. Meet the team, watch/try part of a class, ask questions, and have refreshments. All welcome. To book a place, please email

19. On Sunday March 1st, the first Sunday in Lent, at 10am at St Michael & All Angels it’s a Parish Mass (please note: it’s not a Family Mass, as is usual on the first Sunday of the month – that will be on Mothering Sunday, March 22nd). 
            At 12 Noon, in the Parish Hall there’s the first of three Lent Lunches in aid of our three 2020 charities: The Upper Room, WaterHarvest and West London Welcome. It’s hosted by The Choristers and there will be family craft activities from 11.30am. If you’d like to come, please sign the list at the back of the church.
            At 6.30pm it’s Evensong and throughout Lent a member of the congregation will speak about people who have inspired them in ‘Guess who’s coming to dinner…’. Tonight, it’s Torin Douglas. All welcome.
 
20. On Wednesday March 4th (and 11th, 18th and 25th), at St Peter’s Church in Southfield Road, there is a Lent Film Reflection. See leaflet and sign up at the back of St Michael & All Angels Church.
 
21. On Thursday March 5th at St Martin's Church, Hale Gardens, Acton W3 9SQ, the Nonesuch Orchestra and composer Andrew Toovey will workshop pieces by eight students from Chiswick School and Twyford CofE High School, followed at 2.10pm by a concert of the students' works and works by Dorothy Howell and Sally Beamish. 
            On Saturday 7th at 7.30pm at St Alban's Church, Acton Green W4 5LG, the Nonesuch Orchestra will perform students' works, and works by Sally Beamish, Dorothy Howell and Elgar. All part of CoMA's Festival of Contemporary Music for All. See

 22. On Thursday March 5th, Emery Walker’s House at 7 Hammersmith Terrace re-opens on Thursdays and Saturdays for its one-hour general guided tours, limited to just eight people. Please book these - and their monthly specialist textile and wallpaper tours - via its website

            On Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays (new), from 12-5pm, the William Morris Society at Kelmscott House W6, just along the river, is open to visitors. The extended hours can only be sustained if they recruit more volunteers, in roles from front-of-house through learning and gardening. 23. On Friday March 6th from 12.30 to 1.15pm in St Michael & All Angels, there is a piano recital (instead of the usual First Friday Organ Recital). Pianist: Michael Cayton of St John’s Wood Church
. Bach: Goldberg Variations.
            Also on Friday 6th, at 7.30pm at St Nicholas Church, Church Street, W4 2PJ, there is an organ recital by Edward Tambling. Doors open 7pm, bar available. Tickets £12 plus booking fee on Eventbrite. Proceeds to the St Nicholas Church Development Fund.
