What does a board do?

Leon van der Deure
Secretary

Hello, Leon, here (again).

My job as a secretary involves a lot of the administration of our association. I am tasked with writing these newsletters, which I love to write for you guys. I am also responsible for keeping the website and agenda updated for our association. This involves a bit of technical knowledge but is very manageable. I am also responsible for keeping my eye on the information email address and tasked with responding to your emails. This also means that I keep the members list updated, which I do together with Ivan, our treasurer.
The day-to-day tasks are doable and enjoyable. I have to write all the notes for our meetings and, of course, the GMA. But this is only ones a week for the meetings and only three times a year for the GMA.
In short, the secretary is responsible for keeping the documentation of the association updated and in order.
The best thing that a board year has given me is the awesome group of friends: my board. We enjoy each others company and love to have dinner together outside of our responsibilities.

I would have been very sad if I had not tried to do a board year.
Leon van der Deure
Secretary 31st Board

Ivan Huizinga
Treasurer

Hey all! It’s me, Ivan.

As the treasurer of the Board, I closely manage the financial ins and outs of EPU. Besides keeping track of the expenses and income of the association, I make budgets and overviews to get to most accurate insight into our financial situation. I make invoices for all our relations, and I make sure to pay all the bills. For our GMA’s, I present the latest financial overview, and I check the budgets of our committees. My tracking of the finances is reviewed by the Kas Committee that examines every expense and income to ensure further that the numbers are accurate.
The daily life of a treasurer is fun and rewarding. Next to doing my last year of the American Studies bachelor, I was able to combine it with a pre-master minor and being the chair of the Hitchhiking Committee.
Besides the rewarding work that I do, this year has been marked by becoming close friends with my entire board, the people who I truly treasure. This year was filled with amazing activities and people

This board year is a beautiful year of my life, which I will happily look back on forever.

Ivan Huizinga,

Treasurer 31st Board

Introducing:

The Career Committee

By Committee Chair Kelly van Hienen

A recurring segment where we introduce a new committee each month.

For this month’s newsletter, I will introduce you to the Career Committee! The CareerCie consists of Charlotte, Nard, and me, Kelly. I know we are only with three people, but that only makes it more fun!

Let’s talk about what we’ve organized so far. For starters, since there are a lot of people from American Studies who go to the International Relations master, our first event was a lecture by dr. Gregg Fuller who told us all about this program. Secondly, only a couple of weeks ago, our second event took place, which was all about politics; also something many of us EPU people is interested in. We were happy to see that the attendance had gone way up compared to last time and that so many of you who were there were actively participating!

But enough for the past, we are already really looking forward to the next event, the conference, which will be a joined event by the AcademicCie and us. Everything is still TBA, but make sure to put it on your agenda as soon as we announce it :D!

That’s it for now, happy, almost Spring!

Tschüs,
The CareerCie

Photo of the Month
A new segment where we show the best photo of last month. This month's photo is from our BingØ at Pacific/O'Malleys. You can see all the winners who were battling for some excellent prices.
Poll
We have a poll this month about the Embassy Trip we want to organize. Show us if you are interested in the options below.

This choice is between:
 Yes,I am interested
 No, I am NOT interested
We hope you will fill in the poll and join us at the events for which you have voted.
If you have any ideas for future events, feel free to mail us at info@svepu.nl
Disclaimer: The polls are an experiment, so don't get angry if we do not comply in the first month after the survey.
EPU Sponsors
Laura managed to arrange some awesome sponsorship contracts for this year, this block is dedicated to showing you what she was able to negotiate.
"In the heart of Groningen, you’ll find the warm and welcome atmosphere of Irish Pub O’Malley’s in one of the oldest historical buildings of the City. We take pride in serving the best pint of Guinness, Smithwicks Ale, and Magners."

O'Malleys Irish Pub and Restaurant and Pacific Groningen is a dear sponsor of EPU, with whom we have been working together for several years already. This year we arranged some great discounts for you as well: Grolsch Beer and regular soft drinks for €2,50, and Grolsch Pitchers for €14,-! These prices are limited to EPU events and don't forget your member card.

We hope to see you at our Christmas Drink at O'Malley's on the 19th of December!
