WE ACT is proud to announce that our Co-Founder & Executive Director Peggy Shepard has been appointed by the Mayor as Chair of the newly formed Environmental Justice Advisory Board. WE ACT Community Organizer Tina Johnson will also serve on the new Board, along with many of our allies and partners.
As part of an ongoing effort to advance environmental justice citywide, the Environmental Justice Advisory Board will work towards the creation of a New York City environmental justice study and resulting environmental justice plan. The Board will also develop public-facing data and educational materials and ensure meaningful community participation is part of the City's environmental justice efforts moving forward. The Board is a product of the historic citywide Environmental Justice Act that WE ACT helped pass into law in 2017. To learn more about the new EJ Advisory Board, read the Mayor's statement.
