Tonight: Spotlight Orchestra Concert to feature special guest Jeremy Messersmith 

The Hopkins High School orchestra will perform its Spotlight Concert featuring special guest and local musician Jeremy Messersmith tonight! Students and Messersmith have been collaborating all week to prepare for the concert. Together, they will perform a few new selections from his latest album along with several fan favorites.

Hopkins High School students host Historically Black College and Universities Fair

About 20 Historically Black Colleges and Universities were represented at a student-led college fair on Feb. 19. AVID 12 students researched the institutions and created poster boards that they displayed for Hopkins High School students during their lunch period.

“Since we have such a diverse campus here at Hopkins and a lot of different diverse students, I think it’s important to represent different types of colleges such as HBCUs,” said Hopkins High School student Ktyal Price.

Heart-O-Grams serenade Royals on Feb. 14

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, more than 700 Heart-O-Grams were delivered to Royals at Hopkins High School on Feb. 14. Each recipient was serenaded and gifted a special message and flower. 

This year, nine groups helped deliver Heart-O-Grams on Valentine’s Day. They chose their groups, songs, and style which resulted in lots of creativity. One group dressed as lifeguards, another wore scrubs, one group dressed in plaid, and some groups used instruments like guitars and a ukulele. More

Video: Invictus Leadership Club hosts Alan Page

The Invictus Leadership Club hosted former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice and NFL legend Alan Page for a student-led panel on Feb. 5 at Hopkins High School. The conversation was the first in a weekly series hosted by the Invictus Leadership Club in honor of Black History Month.

Ezana Tedla finishes debate season with All-State Award

Hopkins High School junior Ezana Tedla finished out the debate season with an All-State Award and a quarterfinal finish in the state tournament on Jan. 17 and 18 on the West Bank Campus of the University of Minnesota. All-State Awards recognize the top 8 competitive records at tournaments in Minnesota during the regular season. Students and staff were treated to an African drum and dance group during a school-wide assembly at Tanglen Elementary on Feb. 12. The group came to Hopkins from halfway around the world — in Senegal. Students experienced traditional African clothing, culture, music, and dance. The group encouraged audience participation through clapping, shouting, dance, and more. Several students and teachers were asked to participate in a dance where they learned some new moves that they carried out in unison.

Rep. Ilhan Omar visits Eisenhower and XinXing 

Yesterday Representative Ilhan Omar visited Eisenhower Elementary and XinXing Academy. Students greeted her warmly in five different languages. She spent about two hours in the school touring the lunch program, meeting with students and answering questions, sharing her personal story, and reading to preschoolers. Rep. Omar was flooded by requests for photos, hugs, and selfies by students and staff alike.

Rep. Dean Phillips visits North Junior High classroom

Representative Dean Phillips visited a North Junior High social studies classroom on Feb. 19. After introducing himself and what his role is as a United States congressman, Phillips opened up a question and answer session. Students asked insightful questions about the state of politics today and they discussed issues that are important to them like climate change and gun violence.

National Youth Art Month

Student art will be on display at the Hopkins Center for the Arts in honor of National Youth Art Month! Students from grades K-12 will see their creative masterpieces on display in the Redepenning Gallery from Feb. 20 through March 21.

The celebration of art will kick off with an opening reception on Feb. 25. from 4-6 p.m.
