We Moved!

December 14th marked the end of our time in the city, and since then we have been settling into our new home at Home of Love. We are enjoying all the perks that village life brings, especially the freedom to play outside for our kids. Winter is beautiful here, and we have been soaking up the mild weather and the absence of sweat and fans.

Our 3-bedroom apartment is located on the same campus as the orphanage and clinic where Scott works. It has been a huge blessing for Scott to have a short, peaceful walk to work, rather than a traffic-heavy hour-long commute. It's also been sweet to spend more time with the kids here at Home of Love and get to know them all better.

We'd love your prayers as we continue to adjust to life here. The biggest challenge is knowing how to balance the many needs of those we came to serve while still caring well for the needs of our own kids and family. Naomi loves life here and is always up for playing on the playground despite being swarmed by friends. However, the boys are a little more shy and covet quieter times with just our family. Please pray for us that we would all have open, soft hearts and love for those around us.

Thanks to generous gifts from our supporters, we were able to completely renovate our bathrooms. We are especially thankful to have a bathtub for the kids!

Spotlight on Mobile Clinics

Each week, the clinic staff visits one of several villages. These poor areas have even less access to care than our typical patient population. This past month, Scott and the team visited a new location where we hope to have a long-term impact. On the morning of the clinic, we arrived at the neighborhood primary school to discover that nearly the entire village was waiting to be seen and treated. That day our team cared for about 50 patients aging from newborn to adult. Two weeks later, an additional 90 patients were seen!

One of the long-term goals of the mobile clinics is to identify nutritionally-deficient children and help to facilitate their growth and development by improving their access to and use of safe drinking water. This is largely accomplished through teaching about sanitation and hygiene as well as construction of proper wells and latrines. Please pray with us that quality health care, clean water, and most importantly lasting hope would become reality in the villages where we serve.

Check out the photos below for a day-in-the-life of mobile clinic. You can get a glimpse of the journey, the set-up, the patient care, and the dear people we serve. Thanks to our friend, Nate, for capturing these great images!

Nate Visits!

Nate, a friend of ours from our church family in Columbus, visited us in January! He is currently a pediatric resident, and he was able to work with Scott at the clinic each day. In his spare time, he encouraged us all with his high energy and upbeat spirit. Our kids especially had a blast.

Prayer Requests
  • Continued Adjustment to our New Home: As mentioned above, we're still figuring out our new rhythms here at Home of Love. Would you pray with us that God would allow us to bless those around us, while still thriving as a family of our own?
  • Upcoming Travel: We will be traveling to Greece and Cyprus this March/April for two conferences: a Christian Medical and Dental Association conference, where Scott will receive continuing medical education credits, and a conference for our org, IDEAS. We are thrilled that both of our parents have agreed to meet us there to soak up some much-needed time together! We feel so privileged to have this opportunity and pray God will bless the time with rest, helpful teaching, and sweet quality time with our family.
  • Sick Patients: Scott and Jay continue to see challenging cases on a regular basis. Whether difficult autoimmune skin and joint diseases, severe infections, cancer, or complications from diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease, the management is made all the more challenging by barriers to care related to poverty, overpopulation, and limited access to necessary tests and specialists. Please pray for God's grace in helping us to provide wholistic care in these difficult cases.

Thank You!

Thank you for all the love and support you give! Please let us know how we can be praying for you!
