Rise #7 And Shine to God

"God is moving at Riverside Christian Assembly! Lives are being radically changed. Saturday night we had 20 kids at service and 70 total souls there. Our weekend attendance was 257, one short of tying the record we set last week. Incredible! Keep up the prayers and powerful living. It's a joy to be your pastor." -Rev. Drew

Catching Fire by Rev. Drew Brattrud

The fire is catching. Just weeks ago, a spark turned into the kindling. Now the kindling is consuming. April Villa made a glorious public declaration of her faith in Jesus Christ and her old life crucified. From the icy waters she raised empowered and focused on her son and family, to bring them to Jesus. Her tenacity has been like pouring gasoline on a fierce blaze. She stood boldly on the opposite side of the baptismal as her young nieces entered.

First came Darlene. Her calm, shy, bubbling smile brought every soul sitting in their pew to thank God for the innocence of a child. With a nod of confirmation, she joyfully announced her allegiance to Jesus. “They told me they wanted to be baptized. I was so excited that it came from them,” their aunt testified. Applause erupted as April and I lifted the young soul from the waters. Her smile filled her face. “Out of babes He has perfected praise.”

Seeing the gladness in her sister, Samantha stepped in next. It was beautiful to see the support of dripping Darlene. Their eyes met and smiles were shown. It was as if she said; “It’s awesome. Do it.” Jesus was confessed. Sammy was emerged. The church extended their hands in prayer and a mighty blessing was wrought upon the two girls.

Darlene and Samantha are a blessing. In karate class they are tough and listen very well. In Sunday school they listen. They always learn. Like sponges, they absorb the positivity around them. The trajection of their lives is good. To know Jesus from our youth. To avoid many of the pitfalls of a foolish, selfish life. To know God and spread his fire.

Drewism: Two things; get it done and get it done!

Taught to Teach               By Jael Brattrud
“Oh My Gosh!!!! When will this be over?” I thought to myself as I continued to teach karate. “I’ve run out of teaching techniques (which weren’t many) and I’ve run out of patience. Sometimes, when I teach the class, I’m on a different planet in my head. I’m hardly ever fully engaged. Luckily, this past Sunday, Mr. Tucker taught an immaculate, well-prepared class on presenting. His class inspired me to be fully engaged, and to care for the students learning in a deeper way. So, this Wednesday I tested out my new methods. I spent more time fully engaged but, also let the kids have fun while learning. I learned that when the class played a game corresponding to the lesson, they retained the lesson better. My biggest improvement was that now I’m excited to teach, excited to see these kids, and I’m really excited to attend Mr. Tucker’s next class. In closing, I would love to thank Mr. Tucker and his great class because now I’m taught and ready to teach.

“Do I look like a philistine!?”
“Oh I’m going to use this as Samson’s long hair.”
“oh I want to be Delilah!”
“Two more minutes! Get your outfits ready!”
Kids scramble trying to get dressed up, imaginations flowing. I have been blessed to have been taught many skills. I learned many activities from one of our very own, James Tucker. I’ve learned different ways people and kids learn. Truth be told, there is no such thing as an incapable student, just a teacher incapable of teaching. When I teach Sunday school to the young ones, I make sure to try and cover all the ways people and children learn. They get to hear the story during story time, they get to act it out during acting time, and they get to use their imaginations during arts and crafts time to replicate the story in a form of art work. These are three different ways they receive a story and lesson from the Bible. Using creative learning activities helps them retain information and keep them engaged! We have a very successful Sunday school program and it’s all part of great teachers and their creative ways of teaching! We will continue to strive for excellence and find new and creative ways to teach using all the tools handed down to us

Bingo! By Benji Ingo

“B9!” announced Jim the special bingo announcer. “Almost, almost, only one more!” shouted one voice. “Ba-ba-ba-Bing!” shouted Scott for the second game in a row. There were many winners. There were even more almost winners. Some counted their bills on their way out, but most recounted how many times they only needed one more number. It was so fun. Kids were laughing. Youths were snacking. And adults were hanging on every letter and number Jim called.

It was such a successful event. Carol Bennett headed it up and did an amazing job. A variety of games were played and a brief intermission fed the happy masses with nachos, muffins and finger foods. It was an event that invited numerous first-timers to the Saturday night service and brought us all together. We will definitely do it again.
